Obama. He is making great progress

PIXEL's avatar

Obama. He better win.

jessehattabaugh's avatar

“we are going to destroy Israel”
“no you aren’t!”

berocky1's avatar

haha. McCain keeps laughing. Great way to cope with his failiure. What a douchebag

Les's avatar

Yeah, I am stuck on an ice rock at the bottom of the earth, with very little bandwidth. Does anyone have a good summary of the action thus far, or can you suggest a good link for me? It it killing me not to be able to watch this.

tinyfaery's avatar

How many times can McCain say Ronald Reagan? McCain is doing better than I thought. At least Obama looks at McCain while he is talking to him. That says a lot to me.

PIXEL's avatar

Does Mcain remind anyone else of a turtle? Just wondering.

jessehattabaugh's avatar

Obama looks at McCain and calls him “john” a lot. McCain won’t look at anything but the moderator and looks constipated everytime that Obama says something he doesn’t want us to agree with.

nocountry2's avatar

Obama is actually answering the questions. McCain is tooting his horn.

jessehattabaugh's avatar

a lot of jaw clenching too

Celeste00's avatar

Do you really need to ask? Obama’s crushing him.

jessehattabaugh's avatar

Niether of them want to admit that the financial crisis is going to make their presidency anything but perfect

sundayBastard's avatar

Wow! They have all of you glued to the GREAT ILLUSION OF CHOICE.

I am so green with envy…...

El_Cadejo's avatar

SMILES. What is he the fucking joker or something.

McVague keeps going off on these random bs stories. Also he needs to learn to STFU and let Obama speak, yea obama cut him off a couple times but McCain seems to be going with “LA LA LA IM TALKING LOUDER IM RIGHT”

tWrex's avatar

I’m winning it. Don’t you hear my answers? They never give us third party folks a damn chance.

Celeste00's avatar

McCain: make sure to keep mentioning how different you are from this administration and how much Obama “doesn’t seem to understand”

jessehattabaugh's avatar

Obama best point so far; McCain says we have to reduce waste not raise taxes, but he approved the biggest waste of all time; the Iraq war

sundayBastard's avatar

@tWrex Then surely, you must agree with my comment above.

jessehattabaugh's avatar

@Sundaybastard I chose Obama in 2004 when he have his speech at the dnc, I’ve wanted him as presidet ever since

nocountry2's avatar

Did McCain actually address Obama by his name yet

sundayBastard's avatar

@tWrex you were in military too? right? so you know the game.

Celeste00's avatar

He doesn’t address him by his first name, doesn’t look at him at all or the camera. Afraid they might be able to see through his bullshit.

Adina1968's avatar

Hey McCain is a MAVERICK! He doesn’t have to address anyone by their first names!

tWrex's avatar

Yeah I was a Marine during this current conflict. I served from 2000 to 2003 and was injured, so sure jessehattabaugh, the Iraq War is totally a waste dude… I mean it’s gotta be since the media says so and ya know they know everything.

tinyfaery's avatar

I bet McCain has never uttered the word Barak.

Celeste00's avatar

He’s a Maverick and apparently never won “miss congeniality” either.

tWrex's avatar

@tinyfaery Sure he has. “I think I just Barak my hip.”

berocky1's avatar

mCdouchebag will NOT look at Barack

jessehattabaugh's avatar

defeat, defeat, defeat
Reagan Reagan Reagan
Maverick, maverick maverick maverick

… Palin

Celeste00's avatar

Why would he say “Barack”? That sounds foreign, dude…

nocountry2's avatar

it must be some kind of ‘tactic’ right?

…or is it a strategy?

El_Cadejo's avatar

i dont think you understand

tWrex's avatar

The fact that Obama just brought up the Veterans care issue totally pisses me off. Fuckin’ bastard. no offense sundayBastard

sundayBastard's avatar

@jesse I understand, but the last ELECTED president we had was JFK.

Celeste00's avatar

NO, I don’t think you SEEM to understand. You don’t have the knowledge or experience. Most of all, you’re not 100 years old!

jessehattabaugh's avatar

@twrex that was your choice, I don’t have to agree with it

seVen's avatar

the new world order belongs to them , we loose.

nocountry2's avatar

Barack my hip. Lol.

Celeste00's avatar

Is it me, or does anyone else hear fart noises anytime McCain opens his mouth?

tinyfaery's avatar

Yeah, we are loose.

PIXEL's avatar

awe it’s over

seVen's avatar

Barack and John didn’t even shake hands at the end.

sundayBastard's avatar

This whole presidential election is like watching a fixed boxing match. They already know who wins, but they aint telling you.

They have way too much shit at stake to let the average american vote someone in to fuck it up for them.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Response moderated
tinyfaery's avatar

Exactly, your choice. You just proved to me that I don’t appreciate the type of people trying to “liberate” Iraq.

jessehattabaugh's avatar

that was largely unsatifying to me, no one can really win here I think, McCain is a good fisical conservative, and that I can respect, but he’s got a record of supporting military solutions that scares the he’ll out of me, no more American blood on foriegm soil! Bring our troops home.

Les's avatar

Can anyone tell me what some of the main questions from tonight’s debate were?

El_Cadejo's avatar

pst tWex this is fluther not youtube

Fieryspoon's avatar

I feel like McCain had better delivery, and I’m sad about that.

sundayBastard's avatar

@tWrex I know the average american has no fucking clue what it’s like when motherfuckers are fucking screaming and crying(Grown Fucking Men) all around you and my fucking ears are still ringing!

I love my country, but I hate the cocksuckers who run it and I just want it back!

Fuck’em! Fuck’em in the Mouth! and Shoot’em in the fucking face!

Fieryspoon's avatar

What do the policies of the administration have to do with the decisions the soldiers made enlist in the army? I don’t feel like enlisting in the army necessarily means you support the war, and I feel like not supporting the war doesn’t mean you don’t support the soldiers.

seVen's avatar

Only good choice is Ron Paul or our country is done!

tWrex's avatar

@uberbatman my bad but sometimes things just have to get said. I just typed. I didn’t look at it after I was done. I just sputtered what came to mind. My bad if I offended anyone, but if that’s really how you feel then I probably don’t give a fuck. Support the troops. Support what they do. If you don’t support the politics or politicians then who cares, ‘cause I don’t support ‘em either.

@sundayBastard dude I’m with you… both the candidates suck.

@Fieryspoon Thank you and let me try to explain. (If you didn’t notice I enlisted before the towers fell. I still would have gone, but just making that point) If you support the troops, but not what they’re doing how are you supporting them? Do you see what I’m saying? You’re not. You’re supporting the idea of the troops, but not the troops.

@seVen No doubt. It’s whose gonna be on my ballot.

TheCouncil's avatar

@tWrex – sorry I have to disagree respectfully with one thing you said. I can support our military without supporting the mission. Just like I can support my friends even if I don’t agree with their decisions.

sundayBastard's avatar

I am going to quit following political questions. I think I almost had a fucking aneurysm.

I think maybe I’ll go and hangout in the cooking or gardening section of Fluther.

Fallstand's avatar

I enjoyed the long list of places McCain has been, and who he has met.

But Obama killed it I thought.

critter1982's avatar

There is something about Obama when he speaks that is hard for me to trust. He doesn’t seem genuine in these types of situations. He comes off…...............“political”. I don’t trust politics. I thought McCain did well and put Barack on the defensive a lot but this was McCains arena (foreign policy). All Obama had to do was to hold his own, and it seemed like he did pretty well. I don’t really think either candidate won.

richardhenry's avatar

[Fluther Moderator:] @tWrex, sundayBastard Can we not make a point without saying “motherfuckers”, or “fuckers” multiple times in a reply? I appreciate the viewpoint you have, but perhaps demonstrating it less abrasively would help make this a better discussion. Please keep things clean, and not just for the sake of the children: I for one find arguments more compelling when they are explained clearly and calmly. And judging by the number of times your answer was flagged, I’m not the only one. Enjoy Fluther.

jessehattabaugh's avatar

I’m an avid Obama supporter but I wasn’t as impressed with this debate as I would have hoped to have been. He mostly used the opportunity to reiterate his priorities, which is understandable considering the platform, but I miss my candid barry

tWrex's avatar

@richardhenry I’m sure I could, but sometimes the point just doesn’t get across as well. I’ll look for a different expletive next time someone has the audacity to question my service or it’s validity. As far as it getting flagged… I waited for it to get pulled. I didn’t change it because I didn’t care. Fluther has turned into a place to debate and degrade, not Q&A. Just curious, how many times did it get flagged?

@Celeste00 You were wrong on 10 minutes. About an hour and a half.

richardhenry's avatar

@tWrex: I disagree. It’s more satisfying to post, but you come off as out of control, and it’s hard to put myself in your shoes when that’s the case.

I don’t think there’s any degrading going on, people are allowed their opinion. If you think they’re looking down without fully understanding a situation, then why not convince them? Why not explain things from your viewpoint, and do some informing?

Anyway, if you must know, it was flagged four times.

tWrex's avatar

@richardhenry I see your point and while valid, with that particular post it’s gonna be hard for anyone that hasn’t served to put themselves in my shoes. You’ll notice that most every other post I have had has been very controlled and usually somewhat helpful.

And yes people are allowed their opinion and on here it is definitely more prevalently liberal and that’s fine, whatever, but trying to convince someone on here about the war when they’ve nothing but the media to fill them in is next to impossible. No one wants to hear a contrasting opinion from someone who’s been there. They’d rather live with a defeatist attitude because that’s what CNN says.

That’s less than I thought it would be, though. Eh.

To everyone who thinks there were no weapons of mass destruction – and why this isn’t ever repeated by our idiotic president I’ll never know – but here ya go. Straight from your media:
1.77 metric-tons of low-enriched uranium anyone gander a guess what that’s used for?
and sarin/mustard gas
That’s on the list of no-no’s for Iraq. “It also appears some top Pentagon officials were surprised by the sarin news; they thought the matter was classified, administration officials told Fox News.”

And that folks is exactly why no one supports the war. Because no one knows what’s really going on over there because instead of reporting the truth, they’re allowed to report nothing. Why? If I had that answer, I’d be running for President and Cindy Lauper would be my VP.

St.George's avatar

Wow…at least it took a while for a marvelous thread to degrade into this mess at the bottom here.

Folks at the top, check out the archived Twitter live debate tweets for some laughs. Very similar to the good stuff you’ve got going on up there.

jessehattabaugh's avatar

@tWrex what Iraq had in it’s possession is beside the point. When I said that the war was a waste I did not mean that Saddam was of no militaristic danger, and I certainly did not mean to say that your effort is not appreciated. What I meant to say was that in 2003 the threat that Saddam posed to us, was not worth the billions of dollars, and thousands of lives that it has cost us to remove him from power. It was money and life that would have been better spent at home strengthening infrastructure and protecting our borders or hell, finishing the job in Afghanistan. And what has all that earned us? Distrust of the world, a defeated dollar in the world market, and no less terrorist threat than when we started. Therefore I deem the war to have been a WASTEFUL mission, and I don’t need any media to tell me that. That is not to say that I think less of you for doing as you were told to do, and as you hopefully thought was right to do at the time. Your service is appreciated, but I don’t demand that you agree with my opinion simply because my tax money was what made your paychecks. You can tell yourself what ever you need to.

hoosier_banana's avatar

I agree with Obama and Ron Paul that we cannot keep dumping money we don’t have into Middle East conflict and Halliburton’s pockets. I see more similarities to Ron Paul’s good sense and general concern for mankind in Obama than McCain.

If there is no way around massive government spending (I am not convinced that Washington would allow Ron Paul to cut off it’s head) then I want money to go to the things Obama said; Health Care, Education, Infrastructure. I can’t say I agree with Obama regarding fissile energy, John Edwards has it right nuclear is a bad idea, it has always lost money and has always been dangerous, any money from the government should go towards replacing it. Obama talks about shedding lobbyists, and I like that, I think we should give him a chance and hold him to it. Also when any candidate is talking about their tax plan I think they should have a chart, a picture is worth a thousand words. It’s important to note that Obama is not raising the very rich’s taxes, he’s letting the Bush tax cut expire, if McCain gets his way the top tax bracket would receive almost a million more in tax breaks than in 2001.

@tWrex; I served in the army for three years as a Paratrooper, I did sign up after the towers, and I wanted to live up to my unit’s heroic action in WW2. You may have known my kind as “9/11 babies” but my time in Iraq taught me more about waste of resources and greed than protecting the innocent. I wave and honk for the protesters because they want the best for our country and military; a better home with our troops in it. Why not bring them back home and have military Doctors in the VA? Have engineers shore up levees and build bridges. Have our military ready to respond to natural disasters, be there to deploy to stop oppression and violence and make a more peaceful world. The military was better when it took care of itself and wasn’t forced to rely on contractors who don’t understand honor or duty, it’s just a job that pays well to them. The war is robbing everyone on earth, it has stretched us all thin so fat cats can rake in the money, that’s not what I signed up for, and that’s why I oppose it now. No-one is saying you are not a hero, we are saying our heroes are being abused.

This is the clearest, non-partisian graphic I’ve seen on the tax consequences of both plans. If the link doesn’t take you right to the chart(s), see graphs on pages 41 and 43. Seems pretty clear that most of us are NOT in the top “quintile” of wage earners.

My favorite quote from tonight’s debate:

“The Iranians have a lousy government so therefore their economy is lousy….”
-John McCain

Priceless!
