Is it possible to connect the new Apple LED Cinema Display to a PC?

Under the system requirements for the new LED Cinema Display Apple lists: “MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro with Mini DisplayPort”.

Apple sells a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, to connect one of the new MacBooks with a VGA monitor, but I want to do the opposite.

I want to connect a computer with a VGA connector to the new LED Cinema Display. Is this possible?

I would assume so, but i wouldn’t want to. Being made especially for an apple computer it come with an iSight and mic plus 3 USB ports. The likelihood of these working on a PC is slim to none unfortunately. Just get a nice looking screen for much cheaper and use that.

The real question is why would someone want to pay $900 for a mediocre monitor when you could go to newegg and find something better for half the price.

as long as the pc has a DVI port on it or you had an adapter to VGA..yes. The isight and mic may not work, but I’m sure the USB ports would. Though, who knows, maybe the isight and mic would work.

I’ve never attempted to plug in a mac monitor to a pc before, but all it is, is a display, I don’t think it really cares who’s giving it the signal as long as you can attach it. I’m not 100% sure though.

@battlemarz you are right too…I like samsung displays, they’re so much less expensive and come with a nice 3 year warranty too.

you can’t use a laptop on this display if it has a vga connector.

Yes, it is possible. You can use the Apple LED Cinema Display with your PC. You just need a DVI-to-DisplayPort Converter from Altona. Here is a blog-post:
