Question
Who wants to play the song title game?
It’s a bit like PnL’s places game, but with song titles. You give a song title where the last word of the previous song title is the first word of the next song title. Here’s an example-
A Hard Day’s Night – The Beatles
Night In The City – Electric Light Orchestra
City of Dreams – Talking Heads
The next song would start with “Dreams”. This something I used to play with friends and it can get difficult sometimes. Overall, it’s pretty easy, but the are a few ground rules.
1) These have to be published song titles, not something you wrote for your garage band. You have to list the artist who performs the song along with the title.
2) You can’t follow your own song title.
3) Both “the” & “and” cannot be ignored, so you can’t follow Little By Little – The Chicharones with A Little Less Conversation – Elvis Presley.
(And putting down Little Less Conversation without the “a” is cheating!)
4) You can make it challenging, but not impossible.
For example: Bathtime In Clerkenwell – The Real Tuesday Weld. It’s not likely that there is a song title starting with Clerkenwell.
5) All great entries with be rewarded with lurve.
Let’s see how far we can go with this. I’ll start with…
Answers
@Astro Chuck, could I have used Runaway by Del Shannon or Running on Empty by Jackson Brown, or does the first word have to be an exact match?
Children – Rober Miles
Are one-worders allowed? Just like passing it on. I may as well have not posted. Meh. ;)
If you couldn’t have found anything else, I suppose Runaway would have been fine.
One worders don’t change anything, they just keep the thread going longer, so why not?
I was going to say “Juicyfruit – Jimmy Buffett” but I think it’s “Grapefruit Juicyfruit”.
Dammit, Loser!
If it can be a variation on the word, I could be a total asshole and say
Juicy, Juicy, Juice – Royal Trux
(@Astro: People are posting so quickly that their answers are popping up at almost the same time and whoever answers next chooses the song they want to follow. I tried to delete my last one for that reason, since mine popped up second, but it wouldn’t let me.)
((( Everyone is Cheating. – at least most of us , maybe… Google the word , and you get plenty of results ))))
Gong Meditation – The Tibetan Monks
I cheated, I used itunes. While I was there I took the liberty of double checking – there are songs that being with the word “meditation.”
*Hat’s off to Larry” – Del Shannon I hope there is a “Larry” song!
How about just plain Hat’s Off – Primus
heh heh heh.. sorry! I can’t shoot pool either, but I don’t leave a shot for my opponent. Spank me!!
Overture to A Chorus Line – John Williams & The Boston Pops (I totally cheated and searched for this one…yoy may flog me if necessary).
Run Around – Blues Traveler
wow i’m kind of on a roll, and i’m not talking butter. maybe I should let some others get these
Revolution Number 9 – The Beatles
Astro Chuck, I feel a Question Mark and the Mysterions title coming
Tonight She Comes – The Cars
Hey, that was sopposed to be “women”. Also “Red, Red Wine” was done earlier. Oh, well.
Afternoon Delight – Starland Vocal Band
Sure beats having a boring afternoon, anyway. Wink wink nudge nudge.
Stars – The Indelicates
(because it’s one of my FAVORITE songs), but I’ll also contribute
Stars and Rust – Silent Kids
I mentally added the “s” in song to the end of anchor. For what it’s worth, though, the Rihanna song up there is “Hips don’t lie,” not “Kisses don’t lie.”
Edit: oops, I was wrong!
I’m going on a limb here but here goes:
“Tors“o – His Name is Alive (get it? torso has tors as it’s beginning!)
to be followed by
So You Want to Be a Rock – Tahiti 80
i hope that’s agreeable :)
Note to Bluefreedom: the first word of your song is supposed to be the last word of the previous song. :)
Self Charmed Man – May Or May Not
And yeah, I thought that was really funny…. my current state probably has much more to do with that than the actual hilarity of the situation, but nonetheless.
oh no. please. I’d rather you be angry, just please don’t be disappointed. I promise it won’t happen again, honest :’(
Babylon Was Built on Fire/Starsnostars – The Silver Mount Zion Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band With Choir
boom shakalaka.
Dersu (A Slight Return) – Charlie Hunter
anyone else starting to use Control F before typing a song title?
There’s a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought of It Yet – Panic at the Disco
Moves On – Starflyer 59
well, the question was “who wants to play the song title game?” so i was just assuming, but a mixtape would be BALLIN’.... and very very long.
can i override that with one actually using sand? we’ve done a lot with “on”...
if so:
Sand in my Shoes – Dido
…I’ll just go with the first one, but if someone wants to do buzz instead of mine then go for it…
Hers is the Twilight – Moonspell
I def have a song that includes but does not start with “Icarus”: Upon Viewing Brueghel’s “Landscape With the Fall of Icarus” – Titus Andronicus
instead, I’ll go for:
Us Ones In Between – Sunset Rubdown
i do love me some elliott smith. i once met a kid named elliott smith. i proceeded to ask him how his name was spelled, and when i found it was with two l’s and two t’s, i looked at him, gasped, and said quite loudly, much to my own amusement, “I thought you were dead!!!!!” this kid was not quite as amused as i was. he was actually pretty weirded out, come to think of it. he removed himself from my presence pretty swiftly.
Bars in the Rain – Pela
it’s one of my great stories for awkward silences at parties with way too many indie kids.
Against the Glass – Blind Mr. Jones
this doesn’t help but it’s the only song I know with glass and this way you can go again
Glass – Ingrid Michaelson
Glass Conversation – The Ponys
I feel like I may have used that before…
Oh, I did.
Glass Hole Pit – The Dead C
ps – looks like its just you and me, shrubbery….
oh, c’mon!
Salty Dog – Flogging Molly?
ps this page takes a lot longer to load than all the other ones, haha
My connection is so Goddamn slow where I’m at right now. When I sent that I was responding to “Rough and Ready.”
Exit is the word, Y’all.
ok, i’ve got three answers for this one, take your pick:
A Film Called (Pimp) – Bilal, Common & MC Lyte
or
Parenthesis #2 – Davide Santorsola Trio
or
Film School – Blizzard Scout
Outa-Space – Billy Preston – Muppets From Space Soundtrack
has anyone asked ben or andrew if there is a response limit?
we’re not going to break Fluther once we hit 1001 songs, are we?
The Song That Jane Likes by DMB
