Has "Stairway to Heaven" been on any music games yet?

Asked by shadling21 (6501points) December 5th, 2008

By music game, I mean any version of Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

In Yahtzee Croshaw’s review of GHWT, he complains about the fact that this song hasn’t been put on a game yet. Is this true?

Technically there does exist tracks for it, but they’re not for the official game, they’re for Frets on Fire or similar PC games. I don’t think it’s come out officially on Rock Band or Guitar Hero. Which is a shame!

EmpressPixie's avatar

Not officially. Because, according to my boyfriend, Led Zepplin is made of <rude words> who won’t release it to any of the games.

I don’t think it has been on Rock Band or Guitar Hero but now that I think about it I don’t think any Zepplin songs have been so they must not be selling the license

Madcapper—you are correct, there is no Zepplin in either game.

Stairway is kind of a sacred cow, I tend to think it would be a shitstorm of controversy if they ever “sold out” to a videogame. I get the feeling that it would be akin to handing out free cheesburgers on the streets of Calcutta.

Stairway To Heaven Ringtone
actually, the ringtones are covers.

@aanuszek1: GH2 has Free Bird, but not Stairway to Heaven.

Excellent illustration, fireside. I think it’s horrible and hilarious when musicians try to pretend that they so strongly oppose overcommercialization of their music, and then give away all their rights to labels who in turn make ringtones, put them in commercials, and what have you.

Is stairway to heaven really even that good of a song? Im sorry but i dont see it.

When I was a teenager that was the song every aspiring rock star learned first. Weather you like the song or not doesn’t really matter because it’s a classic. It’s a part of history baby!

TheKitchenSink's avatar

Nope. You won’t see Beatles songs either.
Thank goodness

@EmpressPixie
You’re right. I don’t know why I was thinking stairway

The Beatles (well what’s left of them anyway) are actually working with game designers to have their own entire version of a rock band like game.

As for whether Stairway is that great of a song, I won’t flame, ‘cept to say you’re entitled to your opinion even if you’re wrong! :)

I am so psyched for Rock Band The Beatles, or whatever they release it as! I’m double happy Harmonix is working on it instead of Activision.

No due to copyrighted laws

@uberbatman (and anyone else interested). I just posted a question to get opinions on exactly WHY people think Stairway is the greatest song ever. Hopefully it gets some well thought out responses.

I’m not really a huge Zepplin fan. Was in High School but I was high a lot. However, I do enjoy any new Rock Band songs. Unfortunately Jimmy Page is being stingy. I doubt it’s because of whatever reasons he gives the press but more like “I want more money and you don’t have enough”.

As for the Beatles, yea, Harmonix (Rock Band) got ‘em and hopefully it’s something like the AC/DC Live game so the tracks can be transferred over. If they can’t it’s going to hurt sales (even if it is the Great Beatles.)

if you include zep in any gh or RB it better be freakin amazing. thats all i have to say.
@dalepetrie the reason people like that song is for what it means, the meaning is so flexable to everyone who hears it. its like the most flexable song ever.

With the new Guitar Hero: World Tour people make custom songs online that you can download and play. Stairway is definitely one of them.

@TheKitchenSink Um… what about Beatles Rock Band?
