Does a full iPhone run slower than an empty one?

Does it use virtual memory in the same way as OS X and other systems?.. In that, on my computer, if I were to use most of the hard drive, it’d have less space to use for virtual memory and therefore, many apps would run slower.

So, if I fill my iPhone to the brim with music, is it going to have more difficulty running more intensive apps? Should I be trying to leave a portion of the space free?

Not that I know of. Most apps must release all resources when not in use.

edit :: And by most I mean the ones not written by Apple. And the ones that don’t should all fit into the RAM. Some apps do write data. But you would/should be given an error if you are out of room to write to the disk.

I believe the iPhone reserves an amount of disc space for temporary data, caches and swaps. You should be fine.

My iPhone is in a constant state of overload and I have never once noticed any sort of slowdown, even when running more memory intensive apps like Monkey Ball. Also the iPhone only runs one app at a time (usually) which pretty much gives whatever you happen to be running carte blanche with the virtual memory available.

PS – don’t quote me on that last part
