finally a question that i know i can for sure recommend Bright Eyes! i promise that virtually anything you listen to that Conor Oberst has taken part in will be gut wrenching. you can pull just about any mood out of his music.

@tiffyandthewall god I could gush about him for HOURS. I am currently BEYOND addicted to his album with the mystic valley band. Sooo amazing.

I would recommend “Geraldine” by Glasvegas…it’s gut wrenching in a way that isn’t depressing. Everytime I hear that song I would swear that it reaches in and touches my very soul.

Almost anything by the Mountain Goats, although there are certain tracks that resonate more than others, like “Woke Up New,” “Your Belgian Things,” “Pale Green Things,” “Cold Milk Bottle,” “There Will Be No Divorce,” “Cotton,” and “Song for Dennis Brown.” These tracks are a lot more gut-wrenching when it comes to the lyrics than the melodies.

You could also listen to Kimya Dawson’s “Lullaby for the Taken,” or better yet “Stinky Stuff,” and the Moldy Peaches “Nothing Came Out.” Such, such sad songs.

Personally, I think that Goa trance is of the best “moving” music.

If you want such, music, Don Davis, composer of The Matrix Trilogy soundtracks wrote a good song. The Closing credits of Revolutions Navras is a really great “Gut Wrencher” in that regard…

All these have powerful and sorrowful associations for me, and the Bach and the Carpenter also show up on screen—Bach on The West Wing (Yo-Yo Ma episode) and “10,000 Miles” over the gut-wrenching opening sequence in Fly Away Home.
