Allie wants to learn how to use Photoshop. What is the best thing to start with teaching her?

How to use Levels to make a crappy picture look better.
The clone tool.
How to select specific color ranges.
Lasso tools.
Pen tool to make curves.
Actions!
Resizing images.
Cropping.
Doge/Burn.

That’s what I taught myself to do, and find it to be the basis of most of (my) simple PS projects.

Can I get some of those training videos, I kind of suck at photoshop…

And yeah.. I can send you a link once I make the videos. But you will have to deal with my horrible voice.

I just went through a photoshop class and our entire first day was on Selection tools. Which makes sense when you think about it.

Selecting stuff with the marquee tool. And then removing parts of that. You can make neat shapes.

for me, the thing about photoshop that frustrates me the most is resizing an image…why so difficult? Sometimes I want to experiment with pictures, but the resizing thing gets me every time.

@miasmom: Try control + T, then wiggle the box around till you’re satisfied, hit Enter. :)

If you want to just resize, but not change shape, hold shift while resizing.

Or, Edit > Free Transform.
