Is codeine as bad for your liver as acetaminophen?

No codeine isn’t as bad for your liver as acetaminophen. Too much of anything is bad though. You can do this to extract most of the acetaminophen or ibuprofen out of pain pills like tylenol with codeine or vicodin.

Acetaminophen attacks kidney function.

@dog it mainly destroys your liver, but long term use can cause kidney disease. i was taught that they’ve been trying to find a replacement for tylenol for years, because it destroys our body

@casheroo I am going by personal history.
My Dad has early renal failure due to acetaminophen use. His liver is normal.
He was using the acetaminophen to relieve pain from arthritis.

@casheroo and @dog – My dad passed away in January. What ultimately killed him was a stroke; however, he was already dying – he was in full liver failure, with failing kidneys. From what we learned, they pretty much go hand-in-hand. He didn’t abuse pain killers or OTCs, just took them to help with pain. Arthritis, general pain, headaches It’s all bad, in one way or another – use them in moderation and make sure you are drinking a full glass of water when you take them. No one knows if my dad would have had a better chance at survival, had he not already been so weak, but it stands to reason that he would have been stronger and able to fight harder. Protect your liver and kidneys…when they start to go, it’s really painful and some things that you wouldn’t expect, happen. It was horrible to see what my dad was going through.
