There is, has been, and only ever will be one righteous slow dance song:
Open Arms by Journey

@breedmitch You just took me back to my middle school days! :)

Journey? Bleck! Steve Perry’s voice makes me throw up in my mouth.

Sorry, I got nothing in the way of slow songs. I just had to declare my hate for Journey.

@gimmedat: Sorry, I forgot the tilde.

@jonsblond: Me too. I now have Toto stuck in my head.

Love Story by Taylor Swift.

Er, maybe that’s not really slow enough. Kids seem to dig it, though.

No one bt Allicia Keys…. new enough that they’ll recognize it.

I’m sure the Jonas Brothers have something. Isn’t that what middle school kids listen to?

You have to go super cliché and play Stairway to Heaven last :P

Oh god, I’m so old…

Angel- Aerosmith
I’ll Stand by You- The Pretenders
Pictures of you- The Cure
Always- Bon Jovi
Wonderful Tonight- Clapton
I’ll Be There- Jackson Five
Wild Horses- The Stones or that cover by that woman…

I know those aren’t current but I think they’re timeless ;)

Yah I dunno if my middle school songs would help you any, since that was a solid 10 years ago now.

I know that some of these were your favourites, but im looking for stuff written/recorded within the past 5–10 years.

I included recent songs, but I don’t think it would hurt for the younger people to hear a couple of the classic classics, at least, which I have linked to versions you can listen to.

Always and Forever by Heatwave

Until the End of Time by Justin Timberlake

Moment Like This by Kelly Clarkson

Take a Bow by Rhianna

I Only Have Eyes For You by The Flamingos.

Here’s some other suggestions of more recent songs.

It’s a middle school dance, they are going to think R.E.M. is a the rival of M&M’s! I got 90% of those songs in my ipod, i guess for middle school you should look for something more mmm… more disney! like hannah montana and stuff… with that playlist, we are inducing the poor kids to under age drinking lol

TitsMcGhee's avatar

@flameboi: I think Hannah Montana is a for an age group a bit younger than middle schoolers… the 6–12 crowd is more like it.

Slow songs for middle-school? What is next? Condoms for elementary schools?

Instead, for grades 6–8 how about uniforms for all, and ice cream socials? America is going down the wrong hyper-sexualized
oblivious path…

Middle School dances make me think of K-Ci and JoJo

When I was in middle school the slow dances were to Beth by Kiss, Babe by Styx, and Slow Dancing by Johnny Rivers. Wait, did I just date myself?

ubersiren's avatar

@SuperMouse : Awwww, I LOVE Beth!

@Crusader : I know! Before you know it, they’re going to be fornicating in the parking lot and reading issues of Cosmo in English!

Tearsdrops on My Guitar by Taylor Swift. I have heard it on both country and pop stations.
