Honestly, I would donate them. Your worn out shoes might keep someone warm this winter.

edit :: if you had said milk cartons I would have had a different answer. But people need shoes, even if they suck. Your worn out shoes might be someones Christmas Miracle.

I did an art project once where I cut a shoe in half, and made a fold out book in it, so you could pull the shoe apart and it would be this story of this cute shoe and what it did that day and all the cute monstercreatures that it met along the way.
