At the risk of having to sleep on the couch, may I politely ask you the corollary question, "Why do some gals leave the seat down? I have urinated on the seat at 3:00 a.m. more times than I like to think about. Is it so difficult to put the seat up?"
If guys can't aim standing, maybe they should practice or sit down. Not only do most bathroom activities happen with the seat down, wiping up a few drops is better than getting your tush in a toilet. All the guys in my life leave it down, thank goodness, so I don't know the answer to your question.
Here's the corollary I want to know... why is it so hard for some people to leave the lid down?

Hossman, how about a little night light? And presumably, your initial clause tells us something about the gal in yr life? I have NEVER had the man in my life (several ad seriatum) ask me to raise the seat when I was done. I'd be curious to know whether that is a standard "guy" complaint.
I was initiallly slightly embarrassed to ask this ?. However, it did raise some interestiing corollaries.
Andrew, I never gave the position of lid a thought. However, I would prefer to land on a lid than discover bottom in bowl.

Maybe because of ease of "doing it" outside or before the invention of seats or whatever. It was always easier for guys...think of us hanging in the air on camping trips. My grandmother never allowed us girls to sit on a seat in public toilet in the old days. Good for the thigh muscles, however.
I stand when I pee, and when I pee I raise the toilet seat. thus I avoid the potential (there is always a potential) of leaving some drops on the seat. of course, these drops can be wiped up, however, wiping leaves a residue, which can become sticky and upleasant to sit upon. I happen to put the seat down after peeing, out of habit at this point (strong mother). I would be distressed to find that the men I live with never raise the seat (and pee upright)...
I had a long-term old-fashioned partner(male) who peed at home sitting down, out of courtesy, he said (and perhaps also because he was very tall.) I can't imagine a guy peeing standing w/o raising the seat.
My son, OTOH, always left the seat up...no matter how much his sister and I asked nicely. She is narrow-hipped and very slender and was always complaining about falling in. But, as Hossman pointed out, we women could pay more attention, whether it is 3:00 AM or not.
wow - someone did that math for the sitting ratio! i always just made up a statistic to prove my point that it should be left down! my theory is that in their "relief," offenders forget b/c i can't believe they'd intentionally leave it up for others to touch!
and in response to hossman, urinating on the seat is way better than falling in the toilet. and yes, i have done this. (two brothers one husband all male office. go figure)
Re; math. It was not exactly accurate. I just took the activities that require sitting ( I surely hope), which turns out to be two for women and one for men, added that to the activity where many..most...some..men stand (one) and 3/4 is 75 %. So don't imagine me in some public WC w. a clicker, plz:- ) (what's b/c?)
Let me tell you ladies, it's not that easy to aim correctly. Sometimes you think it's going to be a trickle but out comes a torrent, and you weren't prepared. Sometimes the reverse. Sometimes it switches on you half way through. We do our best to make it, but it really is that hard! Life in the WC is full of surprises.
