He’s not new or underground but DJ Dan is great.

Grisaille's avatar

Does Daft Punk count as techno?

DeanV's avatar

Yeah. Does Daft Punk count? Because they’re awesome. Or do you mean just electronica?

Tink's avatar

Daft Punk does count in my opinion

applesaucemanny's avatar

@dverhey I think of it all as techno, whether it’s electronica, trance, techno I don’t even know anymore but you know what I mean

DeanV's avatar

Ah. Yeah.

Try Ratatat, Justice, Cut Copy, Hot Chip and M83. Not all techno, but similar electronica type stuff.

jonsblond's avatar

The Prodigy

Grisaille's avatar

Alive 2007, then.

Go buy it, now.

DeanV's avatar

The Chemical Brothers. Busy P. Mr Flash.

Get Discovery too, while you’re at it. And † is a great Justice album.

applesaucemanny's avatar

@whatthefluther doesn’t matter just as long as you know what the main one is you’ll be alright

whatthefluther's avatar

It’s the perfect dance song.

Grisaille's avatar

No, it’s not. :[

I really, really hate that song (no offense, of course). More than likely due to overexposure.

Seriously, for a while there, the song would be playing everywhere I went.

J3SSK4's avatar

Thats the only reason why you hate it.
Because you heard it so much.
But if you didn’t like me.
You’d love it… like me.

jonsblond's avatar

Nope. The song sucks. imo

whatthefluther's avatar

@jonsblond & @cyndihugsWell, I step away to do some real work ad look what happens to this thread
Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order & R.E.M.….Four of my all-time favorite bands and all four have each been at it for thirty fucking years!!! Other than the Stones and AC/DC, I’m not sure there are any other bands that can say the same thing. Talk about great music, consistency and longevity…..wtf

ru2bz46's avatar

@whatthefluther The Scorpions formed in 1966, putting out their first album in 1972. They are still around as well.

whatthefluther's avatar

@ru2bz46….Thanks for adding the great German band The Scorpions who I like a lot (love their ballads) and have seen a few times over the years (last in 2003). There may be another band or two out but darn if I can think of anymore at this moment. Thanks again. See ya..wtf

whatthefluther's avatar

How about Chicago?!

ru2bz46's avatar

@whatthefluther I listen to a lot of different music from Scorpions to Black Sabbath to 2 Live Crew to Korn to Chicago to Eminem to Mozart to (as of tonight) Daft Punk to Sting. For staying power and repetitive listenability, I’d have to say that the Scorpions are my favorite. I keep coming back to them after almost thirty years since I first heard them.

Hey, speaking of Black Sabbath, I just saw them last year (touring as “Heaven and Hell” with Dio on vocals). They’re another one that I’d put just under Scorpions and have been around forever.

Vincentt's avatar

That’s a very broad definition of Techno :P

Anyway, I quite liked Bomfunk MC’s a while ago.

ru2bz46's avatar

Oops, sorry. @WTF and I got on a tangent. Carry on…

El_Cadejo's avatar

@shockvalue i saw infected live a couple years back. Amazing show.

aprilsimnel's avatar

Aphex Twin

That dude is craaaazy. And crazy good. I second LCD Soundsystem; know that he’s very dance-y, though. In a similar vein is Les Savy Fav and !!! (Chk Chk Chk)

Good old school techno: Kraftwerk, Front 242, Cabaret Voltaire, Nitzer Ebb, KMFDM

El_Cadejo's avatar

@aprilsimnel KMFDM techno? No way. Industrial sure, but techno i disagree. Not to say they arent fucking amazing though :P

veronasgirl's avatar

Anytime I become interested in a certain music genre, I check out Pandora.com. Type in an artist name or somg and it will play music that is similar, I’ve discovered a lot of great new music through that site.

ru2bz46's avatar

@veronasgirl I do the same. In fact, I did the same last night and found a LOT more techno-type stuff than I had heard before. Pandora.com’s been my friend for years. Come to think of it, why didn’t I suggest that? :-\ Lurve to you for thinking clearer than I.

El_Cadejo's avatar

last.fm is leaps and bounds better than pandora. :)

ru2bz46's avatar

@uberbatman I clicked around on last.fm before, but it seemed to me that only the paid version (very affordable at $36/yr, same as Pandora.com’s paid version) let me get as much from it as Pandora offered free. Maybe it was just the learning curve. Pandora does have a simple and intuitive interface. :-)

irocktheworld's avatar

Would basshunter count?
All i ever wanted, now your gone

RareDenver's avatar

As it would appear you are asking about electronic dance genre’s in general and not just techno, here are a few of my favourite artist/DJ’s

Stanton Warriors

BT

Man With No Name

Sasha

Soulwax/2manyDJs

Dr. Kucho

aprilsimnel's avatar

@uberbatman – Well, I can dance to a lot of different stuff! ;)

Ansible1's avatar

Armin van Buuren, Paul van dyk, Paul oakenfold, three of the largest names to hit the scene….though as stated earlier, you say ‘techno’ but you prob should use ‘electronica’ to describe all the sub-catagories…house, electro, trance, techno, drum&bass, jungle, downtempo, breakbeat, experimental, goa etc…

cyn's avatar

irocktheworld's avatar

@applesaucemanny
I love techno too! Who are your favorite techno singers? :)

whatthefluther's avatar

@cyndihugs….I would feel right at home with your media player! I gave you GA lurve, but I’d like to give you bonus lurve for the following bands you list that I love, but I haven’t talked about here: Cranberries (Bury the Hatchet is a true classic and gets regular play from me), Zombies (Time of the Season is a 60s classic and rivals the best of the 60s best), Pat Benatar (I saw her and Neil Geraldo, of course, at small dinnerhouse/theatre….what a show!), Rogue Wave (one of the finest indie bands), Kings of Leon (some say the latest is a sell-out…I love their early stuff, but its been fun watching them grow as musicians and songwriters….I think there are more surprises to come and they will win back the early fans that fell off the bandwagon), Queen (that last time I saw them with Freddie Mercury I attended with Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth….Eddie, another rocker and I dated three sisters.,...David Lee came solo, believe or not…this is just before VH burst on the scene), Cheap Trick (my favorite warm-up band….seen them open for Alice Cooper, KISS and others), Alphaville,(Forever Young is another classic) , etc, etc. Sunday, Sherry and I have front row box seats at the Hollywood Bowl to see Death Cab for Cutie play with the L.A. Philharmonic, with tegan &sara (who I know nothing about) the second band, and the New Pornographers (who I know very well and is another favorite indie band of mine) opening the show. I will learn all about tegan & sara at the show (I’ve read good stuff about them, just don’;t know their music….yet). Thanks for sharing. See ya…..wtf

applesaucemanny's avatar

@irocktheworld I don’t know many which is why I asked this question but so far I’d have to say daft punk and benny benassi

irocktheworld's avatar

@applesaucemanny i might have to say that daft punk is really amazing when it comes to techno and im listenin to his songs right now :)

cyn's avatar
