2 and it will say so on the stick of butter that 1 stick = 1/2 cup

2, most of them are labeled.

One caveat: Two if there are four sticks in the pound. On the west coast, they have short sticks that are only a quarter cup.

Every stick I have ever seen on the west coast is half a cup. From my fridge

Our W Coast butter is shorter, yes, but it’s also fatter. And that’s what counts. Think about it.
