Instead of an electric fence tell your folks to get a good book on dog training and take their time doing a little research before jumping into anything.

Why not just put up a regular fence then? Electric is iffy and a pain in the ass.

Are you referring to a buried electric fence? If so you must consider that a dog not wearing the collar or a child or intruder, all can come into your yard, so from a liability aspect, it is not the best solution.

Also a friend lost 2 akitas during a cold winter when they had a heavy coat and there was a fair bit of snow on the ground, they just didn’t feel the shock.
