What is a good laptop that i should get that is under $600?

It would really depend on your needs and planned use for the laptop.

Is it going to be carried around or just sit on a desk?

Does battery life matter?

What kind of activities do you plan on doing on it?

Basically, if you could imagine a triangle and you place the following three criteria on each corner:

Price

Power

Portability

You need to figure out where your point lands.

If you need portable, go for a netbook, if you need power, then a cheapo dell/hp. If you need a bit of both then that’s where the first series of questions come in. Answer them and this becomes a lot easier.

I love my Asus eee, it is small but if you can deal with a 9 or 10 inch screen, you can’t beat it.

Acers are pretty good. Acer is the company who manufactures components for computers. They got into the computer biz a while back. Mine is 3 years old and still as good as new.

At that price, it’s pretty much a crapshoot. I’d say just buy a netbook. It will do 99% of everything you want it to, and you’ll save yourself all sorts of money.

I have a Toshiba that i purchased this year and i love it, and mine was only 499 its great for gaming and for projects.

Google the Eee PC T91. That’s all you need to know.

I’d recommend the Dell Inspiron 13. The base price is $499 (I’d add the extra $30 and get the 6cell battery though so it’d be $530).

If you want something a bit mire powerful, then I’d go with the Dell Studio 15. It starts off at $599 so that might be pushing your price range a bit.

I’d say a big no to netbooks. They are awesome for portability but they are rather bad on performance and is really not something you want to use as your only computer. Like if you already own a desktop, then the netbooks fine. But if yoy Wang a solid laptop go for a fully functional laptop. There are other cheaper ones too. Like I got my mom a Dell insp 15 for $400 and it’s a pretty decent machine.

Also if you are a student, you can get a 5% discount at Dell. Hope this helps.
