What would you choose?
Okay. So, say someone offers you a deal. Here’s the deal.. Pick something, within your budget and save up half the money for it. You have to be able to spend that money comfortably. Then, once you save up half of the cost, the other person will give you the other half of the money so you can buy it. (Though it cannot be clothes/shoes)
What is it that would you would save up for?

Down payment for a new house. At least 20% combined to eliminate PMI.
Turbo muffler or chrome skid plate for my truck.
It’s not “within” my budget (I’m unemployed at the moment), but if I was working it would be: I’d like a desktop Mac. Although I love, love, love my laptop, I’m afraid when Diablo 3 comes out, it’ll short out my processor. :P
Other than that, I have a wishlist a mile long for Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab (and the Trading Post), Violette Market and Soap Box Co as well as etsy, of course.
Yeah. I’ve been given this little deal, but it’s hard for me because I make like 700–800 a month if that, and most of it goes to bills/groceries.
I have to go with “house” here.
Yeah. A house or a car, definitely.
If I could do either of those. I probably would.
I know it’d probably take a long time, but their offer doesn’t have an expiration date, right? So in the meantime, what about saving up for either of them and putting the money you save into a bank account so it gains interest?
@DrasticDreamer It’s gotta happen within the next few months. So yes, it has an expiration.
Well, damn… What about front row tickets to an upcoming concert of a favorite band? If any will be playing in the next few months, that is.
Dance lessons?
Singing lessons?
A trip to the beach for a few days?
Snowboarding gear? (Does that count as clothes?)
A tattoo?
A piercing?
A trip to anywhere else that’s feasible?
I was thinking about some of that stuff.
Dancing lessons are cheap, I could do that on my own. Singing, well, I wouldn’t take lessons. The beach is too far. Boarding stuff counts as clothes. A tattoo… Great idea. I don’t want a piercing. And we don’t have time to really travel.
I was thinking of something along the lines of buying something that I could use. I was thinking like a new phone or something, maybe a mac mini. But I have no idea. sigh This is such a hard decision.
I forgot that the budgets, mean common stuff like. That stuff witch you can touch. So nice painting.
@pathfinder Plus I’m already getting an education thanks to grants.
Being Dutch means I’m cheap and yes I would probably try to get as much out of this offer as possible. This leads me to responsible and expensive options like: I would love to get an appartment in a bigger city, I could use a small car to get around. Maybe I could even use the money to set up a small business. However all of those responsible choices would be out in a second if I could find someone to go travel with me for the better part of a year.
A nicely filled savings account.
@markyy Just set out on that travel. You might leave on your own, but you’ll find that there will be people travelling with you, always, wherever you go.
Traveling the world is a great dream and before you know it, time will have caught up with you and it will stay that way. It may be a great dream, but it’s even better as an experience. Gewoon doen…
@whitenoise Thanks for the advice, but it is more of a monetary issue than it is of that of companionship :) I’m saving for now, and if nothing crazy happens next year I’m going to see how far I can get.
ermm…
My daughter’s education for life
House
Car
holiday around the world
First, the rest of my sons tuition, then I would pay for a hypnotist to have my wife desire dental care and ultimately paying the associated dental bills.
With what is left over I would probably buy pedigree roller pigeons.
A new car would be nice. Preferrably this one.
There’s so much to choose from! I’ll just say a book store! Complete with books!
A down payment for a house (a substantial one!) so I can be independent again. Currently living with parents to save on my down payment, but it’s difficult because I have so many bills to pay.
A keg and home tap/refrigeration system
I would save up to both start an artist’s community in a beautiful spot somewhere on earth, and to convince my wife we would be comfortable for the rest of our lives, no matter how long we lived.
A plot of land for future investments.
