Why is the price point for energy drinks so high?

My guess is because people are willing to spend the money. Energy drinks get more and more popular… the manufacturers and the sellers know they can charge a lot for them.

It’s not expensive, because time is money.~ The use of energy drinks will give you more energy (—duh), this newly acquired energy is likely to increase your productivity. Let’s say you gain 20% more productivity, and a regular energy drink costs you 2 bucks. Everyone that earns more than 10 bucks is making money per energy drink.—

Of course this very smart, highly complicated, tested and proven theory of mine does not factor in the medical costs after drinking around 40 cans a week.

I personally hate the stuff but a couple of years ago I was working in a store at a train station, it could have been gold the way those drinks flew over the counter (1–3 cans per person). Back then a Red Bull cost 2.5 Euros ( = 3.62 US Dollars), and by now it’s probably more expensive.

I figured we all know how our economy works (you know price and demand), and it gave me a little room for bad jokes. Over here we have a saying: ‘Whatever a fool is willing to pay for it’.

They will charge whatever the market will bear. You have to decide what the value is to you. You can pick up a $2 water container and fill it with iced tea for a few cents and get virtually the same effect. Or you can find some imported designer drink for $5. It’s up to you.

Does anyone else remember good ol’ Jolt Cola from back in the day?

They had a lightning bolt on the front and the ad slogan was “All of the sugar, twice the caffeine”

It was reasonably priced and way ahead of it’s time. Parents were all up in arms about the double caffeine. If only…

You’re lucky, cheapest I can get one is $1 but most of the time it’s more like a $1.50.

Because its an “energy drink” and not a soda, so they get to set a price norm for this new product. Nobody would pay $3 or $4 for a soda, but an energy drink isn’t a soda.
