I think Jodi Wabek sounds good without a middle name.

I like Jodi May out of all the contributions so far.
They could always use the name of a loved one to honor them if they are from a culture that allows that.

Avoid names that start with A & E or expect unwanted nicknames and teasing.

Lynn is the most obvious. I like Renee a lot and Marie.

Middle names starting with vowels are always dangerous. Unless you mean A is your maiden name and you will be moving it to the middle?

This is difficult for me, I tend to like more unique names and not traditional.

@casheroo: My friend does too. But baby names have to be a compromise and he likes traditional.

@poofandmook One of my kids has a very ‘normal’ first name, combined with a very unique middle name: Jessica Yorke. That’s a route they could take, too.

Jodi Rose came to my mind first… I also like Jodi Beth. I like the two syllable Jodi with a one syllable middle name… I always think names sound better when the first and middle name don’t have the same number of syllables. They flow better. Even Jodi Christina would be nice, although with Wabeck it gets to be a mouthful!

I’m having trouble with Elise… to me it sounds better with just a middle initial than with a whole name. Like Elise M. Wabeck. And you could even just make that her name – Elise Em Wabeck. Kind of cute.

@JLeslie Ooh, I really like Joni, too. Hard to not immediately follow it with “Mitchell,” but I think most people wouldn’t think that automatically anymore.

@poofandmook I worked it out with my husband that we each get to name a child. I named our son (he did approve the name, and I knew he liked the middle name a lot) I told him he can name the next baby, regardless if it’s a boy or girl. We do have to agree on it, and although I’m not thrilled with the boy name, I’m going to respect that. Compromise doesn’t necessarily mean going all traditional. My son has a “normal” middle name, so if he wants to go by that he can when he is older.

Seeing the name Elise reminded me of Elyse Luray of PBS’ History Detectives. I’ve always loved that name (and her). Elyse Luray Wabek… I like it.

Our personal choice would have been Eva Sophie for our daughter that ended up being boys.

I like Sopia therefore, it derives from wisdom (Greek), which in itself is a nice connotation the world could use more of. I also like Emma a lot, but as stated, one might better opt for a second name that starts with a consonant.

@whitenoise I did not know that. I only suggested Joni, because they are seriously considered Jodi, and I just prefer the n in the name, sounds softer to me. I have that J problem in my family. My husband’s parents do not speak English (well his father speaks broken English, but learned it so late in life he cannot pronounce certain sounds well like the J sound in Jennifer or G in George, along with the English sound of ‘th’ is difficult). When my husband and I discussed names for a baby one that I liked was Julia, which they would say hoo-lee-a or if they try Julia it is never quite right. Plus, add in that my husband perceives/associates certain names different than I do.

I prefer Elise to Jodi, because Jodi (to me) is extremely dated and screams 1970s, while Elise is more classic and not really date-stamped.

Don’t be giving her JEW as her initials, that would be wrong on so many levels.

Judi is sad they abandoned Jodi. I don’t know any Judi’s or Jodi;s younger than me. My Grand son is Jude though.
