How many baseballs are used during the course of an average major league baseball game?

I went to a baseball game recently and it seems like every very pitches the umpires use a new baseball.
A new baseball is issued after every play.
A lot of those balls are hit into the stands too.

I found this.

I remember watching a Mariners game where the broadcasters were asked this, so they counted every ball that game. I cannot remember the exact number, but it was in the 70–80 range.

The good news is the teams use them in practice, send them to the monir leagues and training leagues until they are well re-used.

This was the subject of a feature news story on the Yahoo new pages just this week. It must be a burning question. If I remember correctly the report said they are changed about every 6 pitches, and the used balls are then re-used in the practice sessions.
