Why did they change K.I.T.T ?

Firstly, the new Knight Rider is godawful in every sense imaginable. Stop watching it, you’ll melt your brain, leaving just a puddle of grey goo on the floor and mucus dripping from your ears.

Secondly, licensing issues. Criterion Games decided it best to keep the spirit of the original cars (the four hailing from Dukes of Hazard, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters and Knight Rider) rather than deal with royalties. Because these “legendary cars” are based off of pre-existing game models and the DeLorean and Trans Am share certain similarities (both look remarkably similar to the in-game car, Jensen something-or-other), they opted to use the newer KITT rather than the old one.

@Grisaille I always watched the original series of Knight rider its amazing , i like the newer version sort of .
I still watch the original on sky when i remember its on , just not so die – hard when it comes to the newer stuff .

By the end of the original Knight Rider, K.I.T.T. was able to (kind of) morph into “pursuit mode.” This consisted of a bunch of crap springing out from various bits of the car, like rocket pods and what not.

I haven’t seen anything but the pilot for the new series, but the original was a pure kids show and kids love gimmicks.

I always had a hard time believing that The Knight foundation couldn’t build their advanced technology into something a little better than a Pontiac.

The new show which was cancelled in record time, turned out to be just an hour long ad for Ford.

Whenever Hollywood “remakes” something the producers at al. have to “improve” it somehow, even if the improvements stink. There is a reason why the original show was popular. Typically the process of redesigning the show loses that dynamic. Sometimes a new dynamic is created that makes the new show worth watching, too, but all too often it does not.

An example of a positive spin would be “Star Trek” and then “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” For me an example of a negative spin would be “Star Trek” and then “Star Trek” (2009).

Im gonna have to disagree Darwin. While I loved star trek: tng, I feel that the movie (2009) captured the spirit of what they tried to do in the first version (60’s) in the name of adventure while losing most of the preachiness of TNG. I absolutely loved TNG, but 2009 IMHO was waaay better.

TNG was / is balls the 2009 movie is even more ballcrap , i prefer the series with Shats you can’t beat it :)

The animated series trumps them all.

@MrBr00ks – As I said, For me an example of a negative spin would be “Star Trek” and then “Star Trek” (2009). It is my opinion, just as it is the opinion of the current crop of filmmakers in Hollywood that their changes to K.I.T.T. are improvements.

Star Trek was great, especially in its time, when it broke so many TV taboos (open mouth kisses, preachy story lines, interracial cast, and so on). Star Trek: TNG was also great, due in large part to the characters developed on it (although for me Klingons will always be the Mark Lenard type, without the strange foreheads).

But this is my opinion and as has been said, “In a country as big as the United States, you can find fifty examples of anything.” Jeffrey F. Chamberlain, who also said “Everything tastes more or less like chicken.” so you see he has no discrimination
