Most movies are not that scary.

I highly, highly recommend Hamlet 2. Trust me on this, it is absolutely hilarious. One of my favorite movies, and it’s so unknown that it makes it even better.

Paranormal Activity is probably the funniest movie I have watched so far

well, my taste in movies is quite specific so you may not actually like my responses. but none of these movies are scary, at least not im my opinion…

-fight club.

any description would just spoil it.

-the usual suspects.

a movie about cops and robbers with a few very cool twists.

-about schmidt.

a movie about a man at the end of his life and his thoughts.

those are three that i quite like. on a more light hearted note:

- tremmors 1,2 and 3.

a movie about monsters that come up from the ground and eat people (no, its not scary)

- all the star trek movies.

need i say more.

- how to be a serial killer

a dark comedy about a guy who is a serial killer because he wants to make the world a better place and make people appreciate life.

or… if you are feeling up to it, why not pic an actor and watch his entire filmography. say arnold schwarzenegger for example. start in the 80’s and walk your way though the years. total recall, the running man, comando… i bet you have not seen them in a while.

Well, if you’re into very offbeat, artsy (but brilliant) movies, you can’t go wrong with Charlie Kaufman. I just watched Adaptation for the first time recently and it blew me away. Also, check out Being John Malkovich and _Synecdoche, New York _.

It would help to know your tastes, though. There are a lot of movies out there.

@troubleinharlem Death to Smoochy is one of only two movies that I ever walked out on after paying admission.

Most good movies are not scary. Good movies reach us emotionally and/or intellectually. Scary movies aim for the bowels, not the brain.

Though the best scary movies do reach us emotionally and intellectually. Also, just nitpicking, but fear is an emotion. I just like arguing with you tonight, I guess! =]

It was a great premise for a comedy and insight into the media but it just got mean spirited and loooong. My yardstick is when your butt starts to ache in a theater, it’s time for the movie to be over, 45 minutes into Smoochy, I could hardly stand the pain.

Smoochy was pretty long, but funny. My suggestions are Kingpin (bowling, the Amish, good times), Coffee and Cigarettes (exactly what it sounds like), Kinsey (how America became sexual), The Royal Tenenbaums (Franney and Zooey in movie form), The Big Lebowski (just…great. More bowling), and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence (“That’s my steak, Liberty.”) [this is so scattered cause I’m just looking at my DVD rack]. Also, Fido (thanks to MacBean), a cute and funny zombie movie.
