Is the family locator of a cell phone really good?

I had thru Verizon the Chaperone feature a few years ago that cost me an additional 10 bucks a month. It was good that I could get on the internet and “ping” my sons cell phone and the map would give me his location. Now if he was at the mall, all I knew was that he was there, not what part of the mall he was in.

But in the grand scheme of things, I knew where he was and what speed he was traveling, if he was in his truck. I came upon this and used it for his Jr & Sr. yrs in HS after an incedent that he decided to drive off with this GF and ‘needed to think about things’ and had no idea where he was. Next day, problem solved.

If I got this service again for my younger son, I would do so with a data plan on my cell phone so I could be out and about and still find the general area where he was.

I thought the cost was a good investment for my peace of mind.

When my son started driving it was invaluable to keep him on the straight and narrow. He knew we were watching where he was going. In Winter, he got stuck once, and I used it to generally locate him and help pull him out. @Skippy was right in that it tells you how fast he is driving too. We maintain it and can locate him remotely from anywhere on my phone.
