One solution is to leave a link to the 10K thread in the profile.

Wow… I’m getting a lot of information. Do we really need “____” got a GA with as many GAs as are given out? Great Question, awards I get… GAs and being added to someone’s fluther I don’t really. Maybe a “more than 5 GAs on one answer” even if it doesn’t trigger an award?

@andrew, “changing the policy”? You mean like no more parties? or <shudder> automated parties? Grassroots beginnings is what makes them great. Banning a special class of question for content gets into risky territory. Filling a profile with congratulations is very different from filling a specific thread. Having parties was never a policy matter; they began spontaneously, did they not? Overregulation would certainly dampen a lot of enthusiasm. Please let this decision simmer for a long time. Let’s not have a solution until we’ve defined a problem.

@avvooooooo yeah, I’m kind of leaning towards this, too. I’m beginning to think this is going to get tiresome in a hurry. We all can see who gets GA’s, GQ’s & who slides into the 10K club already.

@andrew I second @Jeruba‘s idea. Having parties is a part of what makes Fluther great: recognition for the outstanding members here.

@avvooooooo You only see GA if they’re within 30 seconds.

I wasn’t saying let’s not have parties, but currently the 10K q’s are the only non-questions that are allowed on the site—which is a bit of an irregularity, rather than a ‘ban on content’.

That said, the only way it would really work is if the forum of a profile is as acceptable as a discussion—and I’m not convinced of that.

Suggestion for a little fine-tuning, @andrew. Just at the moment I see these two announcements:

The first is ambiguous. In reality, the great answer was not given to RedPowerLady. She gave a great answer. She was given lurve for a great answer. But she wasn’t given a great answer. For that, she would have had to ask a question, and someone else would have had to answer it with a great answer. Then it would be true that she was given a great answer.

Likewise, The_Compassionate_Heretic didn’t receive a question. He received points for a question.

But I guess you don’t want to say that RPL “gave a great answer” or TCH “asked a great question” because that sounds like a rating in itself and not an announcement of an achievement.

Besides, shouldn’t they be parallel?

As long as we’re talking about new features here, I’d like to see a feature that we could type in a name to search for someone. There’s someone I want to look up & there’s no way to do it.

For the record, I thought the new feature was going to be either…

a group moderation system similar to this one where jellies can promote/demote responses as a group.

or a way for you to be notified in your activity when you are mentioned in the form of @Dog in another’s response

@patg7590 – that last feature you listed would be a great one!

perhaps this is a better example of the group moderation; responses that recieve enough negative feedback are demoted to near transparent status. I think that’s kinda neat.
