i used to barely smoke back in the day. i thought it was cool. but i was in a non smoking family lol. smoked an entire pack in 2 hours lol and almost puked. and they were MENTHOL omg. i did not smoke much, and probably did not THIS WILL LIKELY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU EVER DO

i STILL think of smoking and i havent like in 15 years. it has a terrible hold on people, that is why it is designed with all these addictive chemicals. ALTER your life entirely – you need to NOT hang out where smokers are. you need to NOT hang out with smoker friends. you need to NOT go to the same store you go to all the time for cigarettes. you need to NOT go to bars (unless you are in Canada ha ha ha where i am – smoking is basically illegal everywhere) or bingo. my grandmother smoked for at least 20 years and she is now 102 and never had ANY problems from smoking. the doctor just said quit smoking. and she did. its a crutch really. and lord NOT smelling like an ashtray or kissing one. that is priceless.

The best way to kick the nasty habit is to have a reason for wanting to quit. Not just any reason but a reason from deep within you. You state that you are convinced that you have to quit sooner or later, however you write nothing to indicate why you have this belief in the inevitability of quitting. Smoking is something you enjoy and something that makes you happier at certain times. Smoking relieves your boredom and quiets your mood.

Why give it up?

Years ago I read that the cost of anything “may be measured by what you have to give up to get it”. In that vein of thinking maybe the following will get you to take a different look at that old evil weed:

(1) I was tired of nicotine stained fingers and palms,
(2) I was tired of burn holes in my white shirts,
(3) I was tired of the early morning cough,
(4) I was tired of the nagging by my wife,
(5) I was tired of my children having to suffer the ever present smoke in the house and car,
(6) I wondered if my thinking might be a little clearer when it came to business decisions if I didn’t always have to reach for a smoke when tense,
(7) I wondered what it would be like for a life long skinny guy to weigh 200 pounds and be a “big guy”,
(8) I wondered what it would be like not to reach for a smoke every 20 minutes or so (2 pack a day man).

Quitting smoking may be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do. But it gets easier with practice. Research shows that every time you try to quit, you boost your chances of quitting for good. Your chance of success is even higher if you combine quit methods like counselling, nicotine replacement (“the patch”) or other medications.

To quit smoking, you can do the following things:
Write down the reasons why you smoke.
Know in which situations you like to smoke best.
You should know these situations very well (for example, when you are having a good time) and start to think of a solution for how you want to deal with that situation.

Why is it so hard to stop smoking? You’ve probably heard many times about the hazards of smoking. Not only does smoking harm nearly every organ in the body and cause a host of health problems, but it reduces physical well-being in general. Among the many diseases for which smokers are at an increased risk include lung and other types of cancer, emphysema, heart attack, stroke, pneumonia, high blood pressure, and cataracts. This makes tobacco use the most preventable cause of death in the United States and the second major cause of death in the world. Even more sobering, The World Health Organization reports that half the people that smoke today will entually be killed by a smoking-related illness

Smoking is extremely addictive, and it does not take long before you find yourself craving cigarettes. Recent statistics show that every cigarette you smoke takes six minutes off of your life.

This means that smoking one pack a day takes away two hours off your life. Just imagine how many days that becomes over an entire lifetime, and you may begin searching for quit smoking aids or natural ways to quit smoking

I quit after 14 years of smoking by using nicorette.

I never would have believed that nicorette or the commit lozenge could help, but they do. They give you a satisfied feeling, like you have after a cigarette, where you don’t need to smoke anymore.

Eventually you start using less gum or lozenges, you just start to want them less. once you break the habit of going outside or actually smoking it gets easier.

for me it gets easier everyday. i’m been smoke free since 12/21/2006 now so a litle over 13 months, and i couldn’t be happier.

I personally don’t reccomend cold turkey when you can use nicorette or the commit lozenge. they will help you break the habit in manageable steps. you still get to have a little nicotine and it helps you if you start freaking out.

Good luck – you can do it!

I quit w/o a second thought after my doc. called me and said, “Sorry, those cells are malignant.” Not a method I would suggest, of course, but it worked. Surgery, chemo and radiation did not make me feel like lighting up either. Never looked back…11+ years.

I used the patch. At the time, it wasn’t OTC, so I got 4 days worth from a friend. I didn’t smoke for 4 days, so I decided I could do it longer. Then, I stayed inside for about a week, and didn’t see any of my friends. Didn’t want to fall back into old habits. Haven’t had a cigarette since, and that was over 10 years ago.

I quit using Zyban, my brother quit after some acupuncture, and my sister in law used the gum. Either way, we’re all quitters (and proud of it, 4+ yrs for me!) but the important thing is that different methods work for different people.

It all depends on what you’re quitting.

Marijuana? Tobacco?

I mean, it’s quite simple. Reduce the number of cigarettes (Or joints/blunts) you smoke.
Gradually reduce by half, and then see if you can just .. not smoke at all.

TRY NOT TO BE AROUND SMOKERS. IT WILL TEMPT YOU TO SMOKE.
CHEW SOME GOOD GUM. EAT SOMETHING.

Do not try and quit “cold-turkey” – you’ll only want cigarettes (or pot) even more and you’ll rush into your stash, and relish it for what it is.

Switching to any smoke-free alternative source of nicotine will reduce your risk of tobacco-related disease by up to 99%. Nicotine does not cause lung disease, heart disease, or cancer. Other elements in the smoke cause these diseases. Absent the smoke, nicotine has a similar safety profile to caffeine. Only about 7% are successful by using the pharmaceutical nicotine products as directed, to wean off nicotine. Those who substitute the NRTs long term remain quit. Swedish snus and dissolvables are products quite low in carcinogens, and snus users have the same life expectency and disease risk as those who quit all forms of tobacco/nicotine.. The electronic cigarette delivers nicotine in a vapor. I have been smoke free since 3/27/2009. Nicotine gum got me down to 10 cigarettes, and the e-cigarette eliminated those. Health has improved, no cognitive or mood impairments, and best of all, no cravings to smoke.

I have seen many guys are vaping rather than smoking. And also I got their feedback as well. They said the same taste and flavor in it. And it’s totally natural.
