Some exquisite places to go in/around Tucson at this time of year?

Asked by susanc (16139points) January 21st, 2010

Going to be there for 3 days this next week/end. Have access to a car. Love the desert. Please no theme parks. Please no rock climbing, I’m not buff enough. Reservations? Landscape? Museumy places? Also: restaurants?

John Slaughter Ranch is about 14 miles of dirt road but worth the ride.

Bisbee mines are on the road to Douglas and the Slaughter ranch.

Art museum in Tucson next to the college.

Mt. Lemmon is beautiful and its right outside of Tucson. You don’t have to be a rock climber to enjoy the views.

I was in Tucson a few years ago and had a wonderful time at Sabino canyon (sp?). There are beautiful short day hikes lots of saguaro cacti.

The Arizona Sonora Desert Museum is just west of downtown. It’s a zoo, historical museum and botanical gardens all in one.

Fun night out with the locals: Club Congress and good music shows across the street at the Rialto.
Lazy day: 4th Avenue for fun coffee shops, book stores, and vintage clothing shops.
Hiking: Sabino Canyon
Eating: Italian: Vivace or Gavi’s. Mexican: Minidito’s, Cafe Poca Cosa. Southwestern: Janos.
Golfing: Ventana, La Paloma, etc.
Bike Riding: Bike west all the way down Speedway into Gates Pass. Amazing.
Shopping for Fancy Stuff: La Encantada in NW Tucson
