@allen_o, Anyway, what difference does it make if he’s Mormon? Religious bigotry is shameful in a nation that was founded on the principle of religious freedom. As it is, it’s only possible to get elected if you’re some stripe of Christian. Christians aren’t the only ones with good ideas, they’re just the only ones allowable by the religious right that has hijacked American politics.

@allen_o, I’m an idiot for thinking it’s OK for people with different religious views to hold office? Everything I know about Mormonism I learned from South Park, yet I still think the guy deserves to be judged on the merit if his ideas (which stink, IMHO), not his religion.

Some stripe of Christian? Are you talking about a politician standing up at the podium and announcing he’s a Christian? Few of those men are Christians.

Excellent point, Riser. Most politicians are “Christian” for the purposes of appearing to relate to a slice of the electorate. I find that oddly comforting, actually.

And it just shows how the majority of that “slice of electorate” are easily instructed.
