How do you configure programs like BitComet, BitTorrent, uTorrent, or Limewire, Ares to work on a very large network, such as a college campus?

Basically I'm trying to get BitComet to run on my computer. It has been working, but recently it has stopped. Now it just stops on "Connecting" but never makes the connection. I think the ports it used to use have been closed. I don't know anything about the router/firewalls system here. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do if you don't control the ports. You can try setting your port to 80 or 443 (used for normal web browsing), but chances are this won't help.

Also, you should be careful with your internet usage at college -- they can and do keep a close eye on stuff like this.

It sounds like the Network admin at your school closed the ports down to limit piracy activity on the college network.
