What is the difference between Code Pink and the Tea Parties?

Asked by WestRiverrat (20117points) April 14th, 2010

Other than their cause, both groups are politically motivated citizens. They both use the same tactics and methods.

edit to add – I do not want to debate the merits of one over the other.

Why is it okay to belittle one group while praising another for the same activites?

Code Pink is marginalized by Fox, the Tea Parties by MSNBC.
Fox praises the Tea Parties, while MSNBC praises Code Pink.

Why aren’t both groups treated equally?

People can’t get over the silly “left vs. right” divide that is entirely a construct that impedes any real political discourse or thought. Politics is not about good vs. evil and the Jedis versus the Empire as many on both the left and the right claim. It’s much more subtle than that.

Now I’m untagging this question to avoid the ensuing political shitstorm that would inevitably raise my blood pressure if I stuck around. Good luck.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard, No Fox news is an Evil, by anybody’s standards, there are no nuances, that’s just daft not to formulate a judgement, if one needs the assistance of Fox news to spread it’s gospel then by association The Tea Party is Rotten. Why is it that right wing politics are so dependent on biased media outlets?

@mammal Someone on the right could say the same thing about MSNBC, Code Pink, and left wing politics.

Please give your opinion and support it without calling names or trash talking.

Code Pink is specifically anti-war, and the Tea Party(ies) are anti-increased taxes/big government.

WestRiverrat's avatar

Ok @ShiningToast but why does that mean one is a good thing and the other is bad?

Both groups are just exercising their first amendment rights, for the most part peacefully. Granted there are kooks on both sides that make the main body of the group look bad.

I’ve seen some of these code pink folks over here an they’re an angry bunch when I’ve seen them out in force. Well intended, but misguided effort.

Being good or bad is purely a matter of opinion. I told you the difference, but any more than that and we start getting into things that fire people up.

The only thing alike between the groups is that they hold large protests, because they are so different ideologically.

MSNBC does not promote and organize rallies. FOX does.

If people would only switch off the propaganda and learn to think for themselves…
