  Why does hydrogen peroxide decompose so quickly when applied to a cut?

  Hydrogen peroxide (H202) is a by product of certain cellular reactions. It is also very toxic to cells so must be broken down as quickly as possible or it will kill the cell. The enzyme, catalase, breaks H2O2 into H2O and and O2 which are safe for the cell. When you apply H2O2 to a cut, the bubbles you see are the O2 being formed in the reaction as the enzyme goes to work immediately.

  Has anyone here ever got a ticket for jaywalking?

  My wife and sister got jaywalking tickets in downtown Olympia in 2004. A cop on a motorcycle made a u-turn in traffic, almost causing an accident, in order to apprehend the two criminals. I think the fine was $47 each.

  Is there only one fruit cake in the world - being regifted?

  In ancient times there was a large bowl of fruitcake batter that, in the wrong hands, had the power to bring about the end of the world. A wise old wizard took the batter, made seven fruitcakes, and distributed them to the corners of the earth. The fruitcakes must keep moving, for if the seven cakes were to come together the world as we know it would come to an end. Thus, the reason for perpetual regifting.

  What's the best way to ship heavy medical supplies?

  My brother shipped some heavy bronze artwork through Greyhound. Apparently, as long as you have someone to drop it off and pick it up from the bus stations they will ship things fairly inexpensively in the baggage/cargo holds.
