  Is "I'm only hurting myself" a valid excuse?

  I rarely have heard this excuse come out of someone who didn’t end up hurting someone else in the process or requiring someone else to expend time, effort and money to clean up after that person. @JLeslie – you hit the nail on the head.

  Do you think mothers have great instinct when it comes to knowing their son is gay?

  Yep – we mom’s do have pretty good instincts! And those who say they were blindsided, usually look back and realize that they did know, they just managed to override the original feelings with a lot of rationalizations and second guesses. As my boys turn into big drooly doofuses around girls that they like, I don’t have to rely on mental “nudges” to guess what their feelings are, but I can say that 99% percent of these feelings (about any subject matter) turn out to be very accurate! And for the record, I think that mom on yahoo is a dunce!

  @kevbo, I wish I knew. Despite my tongue in cheek comment, I am not anti-guns – I am anti idiots with guns. I do know very responsible people who hunt on weekends or collect vintage guns like someone would collect vintage cars. I do think we need to have a tighter grip on who gets a gun – but where to draw the line and who decides who is capable of owning a gun? But, on to the subject – I dislike when peaceful protesters get hurt. I would like to think we Arizonian’s are just better people and that we would have afforded those peaceful protesters the same protection we afforded the gun activists had they been here instead. But I honestly think that it was an issue with personal safety than anything. If an officer had the urge to make an example of someone (whether said officer was right or wrong in doing so), who do you think he would go after? The one who isn’t holding what could be that officers’ one way ticket off this planet. Was it right? Nope, but that is life. I sincerely hope that those officers involved in such a sad act, get legal action – they are a disgrace to those officers who have compassion for the people they serve.

  Do you think if we took abortion off of the table people would vote very differently?

  I am conservative in my own actions (I am pro-life – lots of reasons, but religion has NOTHING to do with it) but I usually vote as a democrat as my liberal views go way beyond that one issue. You probably already deduced that if I wouldn’t vote Republican based on that one issue, I certainly wouldn’t vote Republican without that issue. I haven’t really read up on statistics, but while I am sure there are people that would have made a different vote based on this issue, I don’t think that there would be enough people changing that if would have affected the election outcome.
