  What should I do with this injured opossum on my patio?

  I’d be a little concerned about a possum that’s out in daylight. That’s not a good sign. Otherwise, I’ve evicted many a possum by putting on heavy gloves and snatching them up by the tail. They can’t reach around there to bite, and they naturally hang by their tails, so it doesn’t hurt them.

  Do you think that the Dalai Lama is over-rated?

  He’s over-rated in that many people deify him. I’m quite sure that he would rather see that aspect toned down. It’s ironic that as a Buddhist monk, he works to become less and less “special”, while the world constantly tries to turn him into a rock star. That has been of some practical advantage in that it gives him the ear of people in power and keeps world attention on his cause, but I’m confident that he doesn’t buy into his own rock star image. He’s just some guy, and he knows that. Spiritually speaking, that’s high praise.

  How can I help my boyfriend open up?

  As a quiet guy myself, I’m betting that Skype is just not the best medium for reaching this guy. As much as he may love doing things with you, or hearing you share your thoughts and experiences with him, these Skype sessions are probably intensely uncomfortable. They’re going to make him even more self-conscious than usual and add an element of performance anxiety, like he’s got to cough up some meaningful converstaion now. That’s a real hard thing to do for guys like us. My advice would be to keep your expectations low for these little sessions. Be prepared to do most of the talking, and when things get a little awkward, don’t make him feel like you’re anxiously waiting for him to deliver; find a gracious way to end the conversation without making him feel like he didn’t come through for you. Believe me, for some of us, our lack of stuff to say doesn’t have anything to do with how we feel about our sweeties. “Opening up” may not be the right way of looking at it. He may not be holding back at all. Some guys inhabit a mental space that isn’t very verbal at all.

  Are the Eustachian tubes the key to curing some types of Asthma?

  It’s worth noting that spontaneous remission from asthma is not at all uncommon, even in adulthood. Asthma is also highly susceptible to psychosomatic factors. I’m skeptical that there would be a direct causal relationship between the cutting of anything in the nasal region and hypersensitivity in the lungs.
