  Has anyone suffered a loss so great that the damage cannot be erased?

  I lost an older brother just over 10 years ago. I was 18 then, and he was 25. I can’t imagine dealing with anything harder then this quite frankly. I don’t have children yet so, though I can’t imagine what it was like for my mother, I know what it was/is like for me and… It continues to be very difficult. One thing I remember most about the days and weeks and months following it were, how little everyone considered how awful I felt. Nearly everyone in the family was conserned with my mom far more then me. So, to the poster, I think the best thing you can do is quite litteraly, lend your shoulder to cry on. Show simpathy (not pity), and… Ask about his brother. I’d say ask personal, specific things… I left for college 3 months after my brother died and… One of the most cathardic things I did during that looong year was tell everyone about him. It felt good to share his life with people that didn’t know him. I still do it very often. And while I can now talk about him without crying, sure enough, I’m choking back a tear or two now. It’s important to realize, this friend of yours will never “get over it”, but in time, he’ll start to deal with it better, on his own terms… Just support him the best way you know how.

  What's a good quality disposable camera?

  while not disposable, and not completely accessable, a Holga seems right down your ally. Its a $20 investment. And expired 120 film is down right cheap on ebay in lots of 10. Youll get interesting shots everytime. Lots of light leaks, some double exposure fun, and awesome medium format negatives (3×3” prints would be nice for the scrap book, eh?)

  Is there such a thing as a Toslink splitter?

  I have this. It works but its finicky. I used this to split my recievers optical input as well. One side was going into my xbox 360 and the other, going into my dtv cable box. The problem I had was, unless I unplugged the dtv optical cable when using the 360, I’d get no sound at all. Apparently, even though the cable box was “turned off” it was still spitting out a signal, and thus, conflicting. Unpluging the dtv cable before 360 use fixed the problem. If watching cable was my intention leaving the 360 plugged in made no difference (as long as IT was turned off). So, it works, sorta. It suited my purposes well enough. So long as I didn’t have to climb behind the entertainment center, I was happy (I left the splitter right next to my recievers power button). Good luck with it.

  What's too old/expired in regard to medium format film?

  Eventually I’d like to go down that road, but right now i don’t have the space or resources. For now, I’m just seeding the neighborhood labs, trying to find a place to get comfortable with (I’m in Brooklyn, NY). I’m half way threw a roll… as luck would have it, i dropped my camera and the back opened up. heh, the results should be interesting. ;)

  weezer ‘s blue album at the Summer stage in central park, nyc. Still my favorite show ever. oh, weezer… What happened to you guys? ;(
