  Do you think about people trying to change other people's sexuality?

  Personally, I think these guys did a good job with the definition of sexuality: http://www.darcomic.org/2009/06/23/identity/ http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/GWS725.html I was going to say I didn’t see anything wrong with NARTH offering those services, until I read @DominicX ‘s answer, which brings up a very good point. They only offer the services one way and make a very clear point of saying which one is “right.” In general, I am not opposed to the idea of sexuality counseling. Some people find the transition too painful to do alone or to think about. I am opposed to parents forcing their children to go to a counselor like that when they disapprove and hope to “Save” their child. But if the child wants someone to talk to about it, and some kids do have the opinion that homosexuality is bad on top of all the confusion, I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

  How do you be a good friend?

  Listen, until some ungodly hour of the morning. Attempt to advise against destructive behavior (hanging on to some jerk, considering hurting yourself, etc). Watch girly flicks with. A previous friend was stuck in an emotionally abusive relationship with her ex-best friend, who she did not want to lose. At this point he had completely broken her and was just ruining her ability to function by saying terrible things about her and to her. She had been suicidal before which fueled some of his ravings, calling her psychotic and threatening to ruin her image with her friends with it. For 5 months, I yelled at him, stayed up late to console her, talked her out of hurting herself, and just generally allowed the entire situation to consume me too. At some point, at the end of the 5 months, she snapped. Taking her life back but in a… not entirely healthy but not entirely destructive way. This incident broke both our relationships with another female friend (the girlfriend of the guy) for different reasons and in the end, my friend told me she didn’t think we were friends anymore. I wasn’t surprised; my friends have often given me that kind of thing when in a stressful situation, but it did hurt. Our relationship was strained after that, finally ending a year later when her new lifestyle just went too far. I have not yet found a friend who believes in the same definition I do. It’s caused me quite a bit of frustration and pain in the process, but I’m still holding out hope on some newly developed friendships.

  Significant others past and present, what one band (or musician) reminds you of them?

  A guy I had a major crush on in high school: “Jamie” by dashboard confessional. He used to play is on his guitar and sang it to another girl My current boyfriend: definitely going to be Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Hard to Concentrate” and generally the entire Stadium Arcadium album. And probably that damn “I Love You” Jamaican song that keeps coming on the radio (I say angrily because he likes it and it gets stuck in my head for days).

  How do you know you've met "The One"?

  @OutOfTheBlue yes, I do believe that is possible, but I think you have to choose between them. And move on to a relationship with that one. With time, your feelings for that person will grow. I haven’t had it happen to me but I’ve known people who had it happen. My mother could have easily stayed with either of two men but chose the one she did with her mother’s advice. In the end, her love for my father grew to this enormous thing and she can’t believe she ever thought about the other guy. But at the time, she was completely torn between 2 loves. And if she had chosen the other guy, who knows how it would have ended. Relationships are about growing. I’ll take back my previous definition. I guess it would be better to say that The One is the one person you want to give all of your love to forever, which is a decision that you won’t know the answer to until you’ve been with that person for a substantial amount of time. I think many men are capable of being given this title from one woman, but in the end, she will only choose 1. And sometimes, she’s wrong about who she chose.

  How long would you wait to remove the machines?

  As you probably know, MS is an ailment in the immune system. Getting a virus on top can affect your mother more than a healthy person because her immune system’s torn between what to… “fix.” I think your father’s the only person really “qualified” to make this decision as he knows your mom best. As for my personal opinion, I don’t disagree with him. My great aunt was kept at home on machines but was responsive. She let them keep her on machines, but I know how pained she was by it. If your mom already made an opinion about it, I’d want to respect that. I’m very sorry for your situation. And again, <hug>
