  Why does Yellowstone Park extend a tiny bit into Montana and Idaho?

  Much of Yellowstone’s boundaries are straight lines, not defined by geological features: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=yellowstone&ie=UTF8&ll=44.492587,-110.297241&spn=1.865203,6.943359&z=8 These boundaries are man-made, as are Wyoming’s borders. I’m curious why they are parallel and very close to each other but not identical. Wyoming has like 95% of the park, except for these margins. Was this done for political reasons, to give each state a piece of the park? It does not seem like mere coincidence.

  When will paper $1 bills disappear in the US?

  @doppelganger: Is Australia not a free market society? I’m not following you. Surely their experience is somewhat relevant to what would happen here? As for the “marginal propensity to consume” – so what? There has to be some cutoff. Without any context, your argument is basically that we should make currency in infinitely small denominations. Should we bring back the half-penny because we’re getting screwed by rounding everything to the cent? At some point, coins are worth so little that it’s not worth the hassle of producing them and handling them. I think the penny is probably there now. If you disagree then at what value, in current dollars, would you say the penny should be discontinued?

  Will the U.S. have elections in November?

  Really? The same media who have been totally head over heels for Obama, and are having the time of their lives covering this campaign? They would have a lot to lose with no election to cover. I can understand the cynicism, but I think in this case the momentum is going the other way.

  Has anyone used the cones that draw out earwax?

  Just use those water bulbs, sometimes you have to do it many, many times but it works.
