  What are your thoughts on polyamory?

  When you say “intimate” I’m assuming you’re using the connotative meaning rather than the denotative one. In the context of a marriage, I believe it erodes (at the very minimum) what I see as the purpose of marriage, but I guess there can be various levels of commitment and most of them are not absolute. Polyamory literally means many loves, whereas polygamy means many marriages. I think in a general sense one can have many loves and each relationship can be of different kinds of love. I don’t believe that one should limit one’s self in loving only one person, but with having sex with many others, why not just be single and live together?

  Is "seethingly" a word?

  Seethingly would be an adverb (a word that describes a verb: it tells us “how”). Seethe is a verb. Seethingly would describe an action as being angry: angrily or having the nature of steam/boiling over. It’s a creative use of the language that is probably not very common, but most people would have a general idea of what you’re saying, although an odd usage.

  Best rules for affect vs effect?

  @ccatron actually it’s not so simple. Affect is another word for mood state/liveliness/animatedness and is a noun. As a verb, affect I believe most nearly means to influence. Effect as a noun most nearly means the result of an action, but can also be a verb meaning most nearly to cause to happen or just “to cause.”

  What's the literary / rhetorical / analytical term for a figurative description of an action when the description can't apply to the actor?

  @standardtoaster I’m with you on this. When I got to the end of the question the first word to pop into my head was metaphor. My working vocabulary doesn’t include most of the others words brought into this discussion without consulting a dictionary, although for all I know at this moment they maybe descriptors for metaphors.

  What do you think when someone says they are Mexican?

  That their heritage is at least in part from Mexico. Either their ethnicity/cultural identity or their citizenship is from Mexico. I don’t have any personal negative connotations associated with the adjective “Mexican.”
