  What is your favorite haiku?

  @gailcalled, I did search (as I always do when I ask a question I think may have already been asked), and saw both of those threads—I’m asking for haiku which aren’t necessarily fluther-related, hence why I thought a new thread was justified. But of course, some of those fluther-kus are wonderful too!

  Is it weird to call women you don't know, "Miss?"?

  Miss is fine in that context, because you can’t say ‘Ms.’ without a name, and it avoids offending someone due to age (I don’t think people get offended by being termed younger), as has been pointed out. You do usually need to append some sort of title to get someone’s attention, and, without a name, your only options are Miss or ma’am.

  How Do You React to People Who Constantly Brag?

  In relation to a particularly pretentious person we know at school, my boyfriend says he just treats her as if she’s a small hole in the fabric of reality—not really necessary to pay attention to.* In this case, it works, because she’ll leave as soon as she’s not getting all the stares, but I don’t know if that would work on your bragger… *If you should happen to find an actual hole in the fabric of reality, I don’t think ignoring it is the best response. Let me know your method!

  People who write fiction: Do you lay out the entire elaborate story before-hand, or figure it out as your characters do?

  I try to do a lot of planning, to make sure that I don’t write myself into a corner later, and to make sure I don’t have to find solutions to things which I’m not satisfied with. That being said, I usually let the characters figure out individual scenes for me, running it over and over again in my mind until I understand how they’d react; I also adopt new ideas for the story if something occurs to me and one of the characters really seem to take to it.

  How do I get my hair to grow faster?

  I don’t have any great answers off-hand, since it’s a problem I’m working with myself. I will say that I have heard you shouldn’t get regular trims, because while split ends can break off (retarding hair growth), trimming does not tell your scalp to send out more hair or anything. As to the split end problem, then, just keep an eye for split ends, and cut those off with scissors, minimizing the shortening of your hair. But after that longer-than-intended detour, I wanted to say that I recommend The Long Hair Community, a site with forums for discussing the growing and caring of hair—even if your hair isn’t actually long on the really-long-scale, they’ll help you get it to where you want it!
