  It’s far easier to do an exam when you have slept well. The amount of knowledge you could stuff in in that time of learning, especially when tired, really doesn’t stack up to the benefits of getting enough sleep.

  What's the best (free, online) music transcription program? Not notation software, but transcription (or pitches) from audio recordings.

  I think @zina wants a program that can be fed music, upon which it will poop out a (rough) notation, saving a lot of work. Unfortunately, I know of nothing that will do this. Audacity won’t, though.

  Do you have a story about getting something great for free?

  I’d love to do some Ubuntu promotion here, but I’ll restrain myself from doing more than this ;-) Anyway, I often check our Dutch equivalent to ebay or craigslist or whatever, when I need something. For example, I still want a TV and can just do a search for items starting at €0 and plenty will come up. There are also specialized sites for this, such as gratisaftehalen.nl. The onlyl requirement often is that you have to pick up the item yourself (in fact, that’s what “Gratis af te halen” means: “free to pick up yourself”).

  Linux users: Do you run without a GUI (such as X)?

  I really, really prefer using the GUI. I only use the command line if I happen to be programming and use Git for version control, but I haven’t done that in a while.

  How do you use grub with ubuntu and fedora installed?

  I’m also very much expecting each distro to be able to detect another already installed and automatically configuring Grub for this (though probably with the respective distro selected as default).
