  Are you attracted to people who are like you or unlike you?

  Romantically, I like guys that have a lot in common with me. I don’t want to date a carbon-copy of myself, but I need something to connect with. I play piano, paint, and write, and I look for guys that are involved with music and art. One of my ex’s played drums, so he would try to teach me how to play. I love that kind of thing. With my friends, I look for different kinds of personalities. I don’t want to hang out with someone that’s just like me. I grew up with a girl that literally did everything I did, wore everything I wore…it was awful. I like my independence and my quirkiness, and I don’t know if I’d be able to build a strong friendship with someone that doesn’t have that kind of confidence in themselves.

  Under what circumstances do you think fighting (with fists) is ok?

  I’d swing without any hesitation to defend myself, someone I care about, or someone that needs help. I don’t like violence, but I’m not naive enough to believe that using your fists isn’t necessary sometimes. There are some situations that call for some degree of violence, and I would not be willing to let a person hurt someone else just because I don’t like the idea of hitting someone. And @ubersiren: Hell yeah, lady!

  How involved are you with your local community?

  I try to be as involved as I can. It’s hard to find sports programs in Manhattan that you don’t have to pay an astronomical amount of money to participate in, but I always keep an eye out. I volunteer with NY Cares and when I’m with my family (in New Jersey) I volunteer at a senior center. There is absolutely nothing comparable to the knowledge that you’ve helped someone in need. @sherlockpoems: Of course one would put their family above altruism, but you sound very apathetic about volunteer work. You really think that volunteering does nothing to better the world?

  Your girlfriend is driving the car. Who pumps the gas?

  I“m from Jersey, so this isn’t typically an issue, but when we cross state borders, if my parents are driving, my dad always gets out to pump the gas. I don’t know if my mom just hates it, or if he’s being a gentleman (or maybe he just thinks she doesn’t know what she’s doing), but he always pumps the gas without fail. Now if I were driving and my guy was shotgun, I wouldn’t give a damn. I don’t mind pumping gas. Good thing I don’t have to worry about it too often.
