I was specifically fighting to urge to disturb that nice, peaceful Christian thread with this overview of selected biblical nastiness, guaranteed by the author not to be taken out of context. (And he still left out the bible verses that say disobedient children should be put to death (Deuteronomy 21:18–21), and the verses where the good guy offers his own daughters to a mob of rapists, in order for them to spare some visiting angels (Genesis 19). And probably more.)
The bible demands genocide, encourages misogyny, condones slavery and physical slave abuse, prescribes the death penalty for all sorts of things that we wouldn’t even consider a minor offence, and is still widely considered the source of all morality and wisdom. It would be nice if more people were aware of the blatant cherry picking required to keep up this illusion.
