  You let her know via a formal letter of resignation… the short term difficulty that it might cause at your current job is really not your problem. It’s nice that you’re willing to consider them and whatever issues they may have… but you have to have you best interests at heart. You can trust that they have their best interest at the forefront of their actions…

  What are some career opportunities that might be a fit for me if I am interested in combining my finance background with my interest in technology?

  So I’ve kinda been in your shoes… I graduated with a Economics degree, and immediately went into a financial analyst/banking job and didn’t really like pushing papers around. To be frank, it’s not really as exciting as it sounds… =) So I made a career change and obtained a second degree in CIS… much happier in this field as I’m more naturally technologically inclined. As it turns out I got pulled into a profitability/margin management role and have been able to take advantage of both skill sets for a time and have been able to leverage that into a consulting job for technology companies. As far as career paths… you can either look at technology/IT jobs at finance companies… or finance/accounting jobs at technology companies. With this economy you might consider the latter over the former but I think it would ultimately depend on where your interests lay. Personally, I have been at technology companies… so companies you might research are HP, Cisco, Lenovo, IBM – at the manufacturing level, Ingram, TechData – at the distribution level, and CDW, Insight, World Wide Technologies at the reseller level. As far as finding the right person and contacts… you need to start networking via websites like LinkedIn, and your current network. A good book that covers that aspect of career management is called “Never Eat Alone” by Keith Ferrazzi… Hope that helps… !

  Alone for 3 Months... What do I do with myself?

  1) Pick up a language – Say Spanish… something like Rosetta Stone would work nicely in the three month timeframe… 2) Save some money during the three months 3) At the end of three months reunite at a vacation spot… say in Cabo San Lucas… where you can use your Spanish, get reacquainted, and remind her why she should never leave you for 3 months again… Hope that helps…

  Why does my monitor report an error when I run at a lower resolution?

  @eambos It’s the monitor that momentarily blacks out and gives the error… It’s 512MB and the AA is off and the fps is acceptable when in game… it’s really the monitor that’s complaining. Here’s my logic so far in troubleshooting: -since I can run the lower resolution on the desktop no problem, I can isolate the problem to when the game is running -the problem only presents itself at the lower resolution – 1920×1200 @ 60Hz = no problem just slower frame rate, 1280×800 = smooth but complaining monitor -it only happens in Champions Online… TF2, L4D = no problem I wonder if for some reason the game asks the card to put out a higher refresh rate of 60Hz at the lower resolution and thus makes the monitor complain… when I think about it I DON’T actually know what there refresh rate is when I set it at the lower resolution. Hmmm… wonder if there’s a way to check that… Thanks again for all the help and suggestions…
