  Christians/Jews: Why does the Bible contain two different creation stories?

  @fundevogel Any good biblical commentary would have info on this. Find one written after 1985 and it should be pretty reliable. Around then commentary became far less subjective and more historical.

  Is the supernatural/paranormal subject to the scientific method?

  No, it would exist outside the natural realm. i.e. it is not physical, not matter or energy, but rather transcends the 4 (or 10) dimensions we are directly aware of. Thus it cannot be observed in the scientific manner. (I am answering with God of Judaism / Christianity in mind)

  Should the Bible be revised?

  @fundevogel Now you’re talking semantics. Tanakh is generally considered the Hebrew term for bible. Further the work bible means library, or collection of books, which the Tanakh was. @LostInParadise is pretty much right. I will squabble though that God made many more promises than simply Canaan. He said he would be their God forever, that they would receive many blessings (covenant with Abraham), that if they obeyed his law they would be a holy nation and his treasured possession (Mosaic covenant) and many more promises though other profits that were less formal. I know Christians who have small books that are simply all the verses containing promises of God and many or maybe even most are from the O.T. / Hebrew bible.

  No, the redactors (editors) did it on purpose. Used their judgement. Their primary goal would have been to create a book that most accurately and beautifully (in their estimation) reveal the character of God. The final form emerged around 450 BCE

  I looked over Wikipedia’s page but if you read it you’ll note it does not cover the history or invention. Wikipedia’s treatment is very general and simply covers the what and how.
