Super Mario on good ol’ Super Nintendo! I still play it over any other game…

Call of Duty 4 has changed my perspective on video games. I tend to weigh everything against that.

The best game is going to be Grand Theft Auto IV.

Duke Nukem Forever is the greatest game never made.

COD 4 raises the bar for all fps, past and future, hands down.

PrancingUrchin's avatar

I’m going to have to chime in with the other COD4 guys. Infinity Ward really upped the bar after a great Call of Duty 2 game and 4 is incredible. As for old school, I really loved NBA Jam and Mario Kart both for SNES.

El_Cadejo's avatar

Man i loved NBA Jam when i was a little kid. The game really lost its magic to me though i try and go back and play but its just never as good as i remembered it.

crackerjack's avatar

okay wow this is a hard question to answer.
The old games like NBA Jam, zelda, super mario brothers all have to be favorites.
but then you have to add the newer games, like super smash bros. and the GTA series.
But for an entirely different type of game, Assassin’s Creed was extremely addicting untill I beat it.
Also, it’s hard to beat the Final Fantasy series…..I guess there’s just a lot of games that are incredible out there

cornman's avatar

@wilco. Also gonna go with Halo 3! That game so doesn’t suck!

the half life 2 series is so amazing. lets not forget portal and team fortress 2, both amazing. but cod4… man, that game is beyond words i care to take the time to think of. really raised the bar. burnout revenge is amazing on 360. and how come no one mentioned the red alert series?? i dont think the halo series was that special, they were ok. crysis promises to great too, but im waiting to get my second video card to play it :0

joeysefika's avatar

Commander Keen 4 this was one of the first games i ever played on dos and it changed my life and initiated me into my nerdom.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@8lightminutesaway
Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 is my favorite game and definitely without a doubt the greatest RTS game.

hurleygrlblink's avatar

All the super mario series, my favorite was super mario bros 2, where you could pick the player you wanted to be, I always picked princess peach cause she hovered which made jumping or avoiding bad guys easier, buy I must agree with FOOLAHOLIC that the ocarina of time was the best zelda by far. I also enjoy rockband these days though, and guitar hero

Captain_Tetanus's avatar

wolfenstein 3d was great. I forgot about that one. Also, I answered earlier here and said mario kart, but I must specify the super nes version of mario kart was exceptional. Other than the gameboy version which was pretty much the same game, the rest of the mario karts have sucked in comparison. they’re too childish and limited. original mario kart had it all, battle mode, variety, challenge.

@ crackerjack

For me, the final fantasy/kingdom heart series is a whole separate issue. I mean, it’s hard to get more epic than those games, so i normally categorize them by themselves.

crackerjack's avatar

@foolholic:
I agree, it probably isn’t fair to lump them together in a category with all of these games because of how different they are, but I had to put them down in a discussion like this just because I really do think that they are some of the best video games that could ever be played

blippio's avatar

It’s ZORK of course! All those flashy graphics… you definitely need some SLI’d graphics cards and a bunch of RAM to run it though…

here’s the online emulator version

Haha of course pong will always be a good game and all the many variations that have spun off of it, like the cyber tennis games that are the same thing except you look at a racket instead of a bar.

Super Smash Bros Melee

luminous00's avatar

Old school, I’d have to go with Return Fire (3DO), NFL Gameday (original), Mutant League Hockey/Football, any Sonic, any Mario, Toejam & Earl (which is available for download on Wii!!!!), Earthworm Jim.

Middle School, Final Fantasy VII, Destruction Derby, Xenogears, Breath of Fire series, God of War

High School, COD4, Halo3, Super Smash Brothers/Melee/Brawl.
