Can we see who modded our answers?

Asked by chocolatechip (3009points) October 18th, 2010

Is there a way to see who mods your answers? If not, I think there should be, so we can take the issue up with the appropriate user.

No, there isn’t. We mod as a team, and respond as a team. If you ever have an issue with moderation, you can take it up with any mod. If that doesn’t resolve your concern, you can also PM me.

Their job is hard enough without getting PM’s about their decisions. If you think something was incorrectly modded use the contact link in the upper right. That way everyone sees it.

And I am pretty sure I know what you are complaining about. Your response was off-topic and didn’t add anything. It would have been fine if the Q was in Social but it was in general. My response to yours that was a joke was also modded. I’m not pissed. I would have done the same if I was them.

I should add that I accidentally got added to the e-mail list regarding mod stuff. For non-obvious stuff like spam there is a lot of collaboration. You don’t want to see the insides of this machine. It makes Burger King look healthy.

I think this person is asking if they can find out who flagged them.

50 bucks and a couple of phone calls.

No, you can’t.

Why the fuck would anyone want to know? I mean it’s completely unimportant, not to say irrelevant. To me at least.

Much better things remain anonymous. Can you imagine what all kinda drama, grudges, and hi-jinks would ensue if you knew who was flagging and/or moderating you? Not to mention that not all flagged posts/questions are removed, so… yeah.. that’s just a huge mess. It’s much more peaceful and friendly this way.

I think this sort of thing is much better left anonymous, otherwise it causes all kinds of resentment. I’m sure the mods collaborate with each other anyway and don’t make arbitrary decisions on their own.

@downtide Auggie flogs us if we act arbitrarily.

@syz Oooh! Rough trade!

sometimes we do it on purpose :P

You know you like it.

@augustlan Thanks

@johnpowell Actually, there have been a number of occasions when relevant responses of mine were modded.

@ucme It’s as important as anything else that happens on this site. Why waste time trying to contribute if my posts are just going to disappear?

ucme's avatar

@chocolatechip As I clearly stated, not to me it’s not!

JilltheTooth's avatar

@chocolatechip : Personally, I like the idea that an objective trained group can decide what’s relevant. I don’t think all of my prose is so deathless that it can’t stand some review.

KatawaGrey's avatar

@chocolatechip: How would it enhance your experience of the site if you knew exactly who modded you?

bob_'s avatar

@KatawaGrey No wasting time in making the wrong voodoo dolls.

JilltheTooth's avatar

Actually, @KatawaGrey , I’ve seen a fair number of comments on that topic recently. Maybe you should ask that as a real Meta question.

MissAnthrope's avatar

@chocolatechip – We sometimes have to moderate posts in General that may have relevance to the topic, but that don’t directly answer the question. So, we sometimes have to make a call about whether a post is on-topic enough, or is actually helpful to the OP, who is seeking a specific kind of answer.

If you ever need clarification or feel that something has been wrongly modded, you can always ask one of us to explain.
