What topping kills a pizza for you?

Asked by RareDenver (13173points) October 21st, 2010

Personally I hate sweetcorn and pineapple. At least pineapple you can pick off but sweetcorn is just too bitty.

Pineapple. Blech!

wgallios's avatar

I’m with @marinelife I cant stand pineapple. All other normal toppings I’m pretty much fine with.

chyna's avatar

Anchovies and peppers. You can pick them off, but the taste is still there.

Blackberry's avatar

Pepperoni, it’s too greasy and makes the pizza gross. Pineapples make a pizza for me : )

YoBob's avatar

I don’t think I’ve ever met a pizza topping I didn’t like.

free_fallin's avatar

Anchovies! Blech. I hate them. Everything else is fantastic, although pineapple on pizza is weird to me. I’ve had it, and enjoyed it, but it’s just weird. I’ll be making my own pizza for dinner again tonight! :D

Austinlad's avatar

Geen peppers, jalapenos, pineapple. Yuck!

Aster's avatar

olives. I like pineapple and canadian bacon. but I’m really sick of pizza. Its really too salty usually and yes , pepperoni is sickeningly salty.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Anchovies and green peppers, just like @chyna said. You can pick them off, but that flavor lingers. I like hot peppers on my pizza, though.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

Pineapple. Must be a regional thing, because I’ve never met someone who actually ordered the ham/pineapple pizza. I also don’t like canned pineapple in general, only fresh pineapple. Anchovies I don’t care for, but if I’m hungry I’ll eat a slice.

I’ve never had pizza with sweet corn on it, but I do like sweet corn in most other forms, so it might be ok.

I generally don’t care for the Dominos/Pizza Hut style pizza. I’m more of a gourmet pizza kind of gal. I’ve been dreaming of this one pizza with goat cheese, figs, and prosciutto for quite some time now.

Frankie's avatar

Any kind of meat besides chicken. I don’t eat pork so that rules out the most popular meat toppings – pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, etc.

Black olives. Like @TheOnlyNeffie said, flavor can linger, and I hate the taste of black olives, especially if they’ve been cooked.

I’m with the others on pineapple. I love pineapple, but I take issue with fruit on pizzas.

kenmc's avatar

I love pineapple on pizza. And I can dig on anchovies in the right situation.

An excess of meat kills a pizza for me. Especially sausage. Its usually over spiced and the flavor is not very good and distracting.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Oh, I want to change my answer to sausage. I didn’t even think of it, but nothing ruins a pizza for me faster than sausage.

The_Idler's avatar

JalapeƱos & olives go on every pizza I eat. The worst things I’ve had on pizza are artichoke and big slices of mushroom.

I don’t like mushrooms. Small amounts, bearable. Lumps of them, nooooo.

chyna's avatar

Not sharing a pizza with @The_Idler. His Jalapenos would spread to my side.

kenmc's avatar

@The_Idler I LOVE artichokes and mushrooms on pizza. Especially with pesto as the sauce.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Tried pizza with tofu once, don’t think I’ll try it again.

MissAnthrope's avatar

All you pineapple haters.. I’m afraid we can’t be friends anymore.

#1 pizza ruiner would be anchovies. I ate a slice of a ‘supreme’ pizza once that, unbeknownst to me, had anchovies buried under the cheese. There were shrimp on top, so I reasoned away the fishy flavor of the first bite, but the second one landed me an actual piece of anchovy in my mouth. HORRIDHORRIDBLEH. I immediately spit it out and tried cleaning my tongue off, it was awful.

Aside from that, pizza with 20 different kinds of meat piled on top. I don’t love meat on pizza to begin with.. I mean, I’ll eat it, but it’s not my favorite, so having like 5 pounds of meat as pizza topping, especially if it’s just meat, that’s gross.

Pineapple FTW!

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@kenmc Ooooo, that sounds so good!

downtide's avatar

Pepperoni. It just seems to make the whole thing too greasy. Also sweetcorn. I used to think pineapple had no business being on a pizza, until the first time I actually tried it, and fell in love with it.

YoBob's avatar

We had a recent “bring your favorite topping” pizza party to celebrate the grand opening of the backyard pizza oven. I was amazed at how many people showed up with pineapple.

While not my favorite, It’s not bad with Canadian bacon (even better if you throw a couple of jalapenos on as well) .

Aster's avatar

I love fish but have never had an anchovy and still detest them. lol

xxii's avatar

Anchovies and olives.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@downtide Well, then I should state that at one point, someone did talk me into trying pineapple on a pizza, and it was even more disgusting than I imagined it would be.

faye's avatar

Any kind of seafood. I must add pineapple is a pizza staple up here! I don’t love it, though.

Frankie's avatar

@papayalily Oh yeah, agreed. Nothing about it tastes good. It’s just wrong!

Aster's avatar

I love onions & mushrooms on pizza.

The_Idler's avatar

If I’m not limited, I generally have lots of meat (fresh, i.e. fried bacon, roast chicken, diced steak), several types of cheese including extra mature cheddar, red onions, green peppers, jalapeƱos, olives and YES PINEAPPLE!

The_Idler's avatar

Hoi Sin, roast duck, spring onion & cucumber is also excellent.

i.e. Peking Duck pizza.

picante's avatar

There are few indredients that kill a pizza for me, but I’d say that an excess of any ingredient damages the experience. With a name like “Picante,” you’d better believe I love the spicy stuff!

I admit I don’t care for mushrooms, but it is only in excess that they become problematic.

cazzie's avatar

Any kind of shellfish for a start. That’s how I discovered I was allergic. Don’t like anchovies and can do without peppers, but it doesn’t destroy it for me. But I love olives on my pizza, especially green ones. I’ve even fixed a smoked salmon and capers pizza with a creamy type dressing sauce rather than standard tomato and it was DE-LISH!

I’ve had tai-pizza, satay pizza, bbq pizza, Mexican style pizza…. they’re all good.

Aster's avatar

I had Mexican once and love it ! **I want to try tai pizza.* What’s on it? Or is it thai?

Not a huge fan of pizza but I especially don’t like olives, pineapples, or anchovies.
This pizza I would love

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@daytonamisticrip Oh, God, it’s even more disgusting than the Oreo pizza.

Oreo. Kills all pizzas.

RareDenver's avatar

@daytonamisticrip that is why we have coronary heart disease, but I’m still curious to at least try it.

The_Idler's avatar

lol, america.

daytonamisticrip's avatar

@papayalily how can you hate the pizza burger. If you don’t eat it, it will eat you!

Blackberry's avatar

That pizza burger is why people like The Idler say things like ‘lol, america’ lol. What a disgusting display and waste of food.

daytonamisticrip's avatar

It wouldn’t go to waste, not in my house it wouldn’t. mmmmm

Blackberry's avatar

@daytonamisticrip If you had the choice to eat that or something else, would you eat that?

daytonamisticrip's avatar

It depends on what the something else is. If it’s a steak than I would choose steak. If it’s a plain hamburger I would choose pizza burger over it.

deni's avatar

Basil. VOMIT!!!!!!!!!!! Vomit, AGAIN.

Kardamom's avatar

Since I am a vegetarian, I guess I would have to say meat, although I do like this brand of fake pepperoni. Never heard of sweet corn on a pizza, but that actually sounds intriguing to me. Pineapple is neither good nor bad on pizza, just neutral. My favorite toppings are mushrooms, artichoke hearts, basil, kale, fresh garlic, ricotta cheese, broccoli and jalapenos. Not necessarily all together, though.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

Italian sausage, anchovies or cat treats.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

So many things. Pineapple, olives, sausage, artichokes, canadian bacon, jalapenos, mushrooms, anchovies, fucking ranch dressing <if you’re one of those people, you’re gross>, and greasy pepperoni ruin a pizza for me.

I’ve pretty much resigned to always cooking my own pizza, simply with cheese, cayenne pepper, green peppers, onions, and a little bit of Frank’s Red Hot. Now, that’s a tasty pizza.

Michael_Huntington's avatar

That white three legged table. Seriously, what the mariah

MeinTeil's avatar

Chicken.

Trendy inauthentic crap.

GracieT's avatar

Fungus! I also have a few others. Pinapple is a deal breaker, as are anchovies. I think that basically I can pick off anything that I don’t care for.

chyna's avatar

There goes a beautiful friendship with @jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities. I am one of those people. I eat ranch on everything.

free_fallin's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities You and I could definitely eat/make pizza together!

cockswain's avatar

Green olives are kind of gross.

As an aside, I used to work at a pizza place in my late-teens/early 20s. If someone was a difficult customer, bad things were done to their pizza. Things that would fully qualify as items you would not want on your pizza.

Don’t ever be rude to people preparing or serving your food. If you regularly order delivery, regularly tip your driver to avoid these heinous (but unknown to you) practices.

If you are respectful to service employees and not obnoxious, you likely never suffered this fate. It’s all about finding a way to feel OK with being mistreated.

I’m never rude to anyone in a restaurant ever. If I have to be for some reason, I ensure it’s only right before I leave, and then I don’t go back for a long time.

My wife and I were at Ernie’s Bar in Denver last night. The waitress was nice enough until I noticed she overcharged us on the bill. When I pointed out the error, she tried justifying it as acceptable but there was zero question she was totally wrong. She then got a little snarky and said “I can get the manager to explain it to you” and I agreed that was necessary. The manager agreed with me and properly adjusted the bill. The waitress gave me a super dirty look when I gave her the new bill to ring up. I can’t go back to that place for 6 months I figure.

I think there are unsuspecting connections going on over pizza lust. I don’t think I can bear to watch….... hides head and covers eyes

crisw's avatar

Meat.

And pineapple.

seazen's avatar

Tuna or anchovies. Not fond of corn, either. The veggies and meats I like.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@MeinTeil What’s “trendy”?

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Pineapple, black olives and artichokes are a deal-breaker. They can’t be picked off without leaving behind the taste of fruity sweet, or in the case of the latter two, formaldehyde.

deni's avatar

@noelleptc i have always hated cheese too. but in the past few years i have come to love melted cheese. i will not go anywhere near putting raw cheese in my mouth, but the minute its on a pizza ITS ON!! so to speak. anyhow. i used to pick all the cheese off too and just eat the crust and toppings and i am glad to say i’ve now overcome this. melted cheese is a blessing. tell her things will get better with time ;)

YARNLADY's avatar

anchovies

Paradox's avatar

Garlic or Parmesan.

Blackberry's avatar

I’m also surprised at the number of people who dislike pineapple on pizza (not just on fluther). Fruit is nature’s candy lol. I like fruit on chicken and fish (I want to try it on steak, but that may not work out well). Fruit is great with breads and cheeses as well.

It is the combination of light, sweet substances on heavier foods that I like as well.

kenmc's avatar

@Blackberry Dude… BBQ pizza with pineapples, chicken, and red onions… Thank you for the memory.

Paradox's avatar

@Blackberry My grandmother’s old pineapple chicken recipe was the best. She would make this every Christmas. I never thought of trying pineapple on pizza.

Blackberry's avatar

Yes, pineapple and chicken is a classic duo. I also had some dishes with chicken and plums that were excellent. I think it was Hoisin grilled chicken with the plums grilled as well.

breedmitch's avatar

Pineapple. Who’s stupid idea was that?!?

MissAnthrope's avatar

If by ‘stupid’, you mean brilliant

breedmitch's avatar

Yeah, no. I mean stupid.

weeveeship's avatar

Pineapple. I don’t even know why it goes on pizza. Once, I had a pizza that had only one topping: pineapple. It was horrible.

I don’t like anchovies either. Olives taste good but they just aren’t my thing.

OpryLeigh's avatar

Olives or pineapple. I like pineapple on it’s own and cold but hot pineapple on pizza makes me gag!

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

Anchovies, pepperoni, chicken, and I detest olives. I like pineapple on pizza.

Blackberry's avatar

I do not like olives, either. Olives and capers have a very salty, bitter taste.

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

@Blackberry I know, it just ruins the pizza!

free_fallin's avatar

For those with issues regarding pepperoni being too greasy: I love pepperoni

I’ve done this and it works perfectly.

GracieT's avatar

Pied_pfeffer, thanks the info about formaldehyde. I didn’t know about that!

jonsblond's avatar

Green olives are just…..Nasty. They are evil.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

@chyna Sorry. It’s not my first Fluther friendship to be ruined by my hatred of that vile stuff.

~

deni's avatar

I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove pineapple. Everytime I get one I cut it up and without knowing it I eat the whole thing. Then my tongue is killing me for 2 weeks. And I can also kill a whole pizza in one sitting. But the two together, I’m sorry, they do not mix. Ever.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

@GracieT Black olives and artichokes taste like they have been marinating in formaldehyde, in my opinion. I seriously doubt that they are, although that might explain why a friend who gobbles them down looks so youthful.

GracieT's avatar

@Peid_Pfeffer,
:o)

MeinTeil's avatar

Al Queda.

Terrible on pizza.
