That would be worthy of a Master’s thesis.

Cuz our underwear is silky and comfy, our jewelry is prettier, and face it, and our hair tends to be way better.

@josie ; or a Mistress thesis? ;-)

It’s all about economics, @seazen. Increased demand for womens’ clothing causes a price spike for everyone. It’s just not fiscally responsible! That’s why I buy my womens’ clothing in the off-season.

One time when my girlfriend was out of town I put a pair of her stockings on. I felt pretty. I can see manly men that harbor a fascination with delicate garments taking the opportunity that Halloween affords them to dress up in female clothing.

Pass me that lipstick, zenny.

@FutureMemory I have either fuchsia or persimmon.

JilltheTooth's avatar

Wear the persimmon. It sounds naughtier.

seazen's avatar

Oh, it’s naughtier alright.

It’s Halloween – why not?

Truth is, I can’t remember a Halloween party where straight men dressed as women.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Still, where do you live? It might make a difference in how people answer.

About 75% of male transvestites, and most transvestites are men, are heterosexual; they are “perfectly straight!” Yup. The overwhelming majority of male transvestites are “perfectly straight” to begin with. I don’t know what percentage of men that dress as women on Halloween are actually real transvestites and I don’t what motivates men who aren’t transvestites the rest of the year to dress as women on Halloween. Don’t know.

Well, it’s mostly the perfectly straight men who dress up like women every other day of the year.

So it’s the one day of the year they can really get out. ;-)

Why not!

They think they’re funny.

No different than anyone who puts on really elaborate costumes…they crave the attention.

A better question: Do you have any idea how hard it is for a woman to go as a man for Halloween? I mean, we dress like men enough of the time that you can’t just put on a police man’s uniform or anything. For Christ’s sake, I had to go as a drag queen to get across to people that for the night, I had a penis!

lillycoyote's avatar

@papayalily LOL. That is so genderbending.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@lillycoyote There’s something about spring and autumn that get me in a genderbending mood…

YARNLADY's avatar

There is no such thing as perfectly straight.

^ You’re late, Yarnie – and missed my details.

@papayalily Maybe one year you could try a Handsome Cabin Boy costume.

Here’s’ Pentangle doing my favorite version of this kind of song, A Maid Who’s Deep in Love

And here are the lyrics to that one if you don’t quite get them all.

Really, check it out. It’s kind of a kinky little, genderbending, traditional folk song.

@lillycoyote I love Pentangle.

We should do a thread about gender-bending folk songs; like Canada-io. A lot of folk songs deal with women dressing up as men to go off to war or sea with their lovers. Or just to be a pirate.

Austinlad's avatar

Just to have fun, maybe?

lillycoyote's avatar

@janbb That would be interesting, a gender-bending folk song thread. :-) I know that there were women who disguised themselves as men so that they could fight in the Civil War, and the other kinds of things you mentioned, or just to have adventures that would otherwise be denied them. I’m going to check out Canada-io. I don’t know that one

A Maid Who’s Deep in Love just seems a little kinkier because the Captain finds himself enticed by her “ruby lips” and “rosy cheeks” when he still thinks she’s a boy. But doesn’t act on it, he just has the urges, but since she actually isn’t a boy , the Captain isn’t really a pedophile, or is he? :-)

I love Pentangle too. I’ve been reacquainting myself with their stuff and a lot of other great music ever since rebbel asked a question about vinyl a couple of months ago. I still have a working turntable and some great early 70s era Advent speakers and hauled out a bunch of my old LPs that night, when rebbel asked his question, and I’ve been have a blast listening to it all.

@lillycoyote Cool; I didn’t remember that about that song. I did start a gender-bending song thread; not limited to folk. Check it out in Social. Here’s a link to the Canadee-i-o song complete with lyrics. Enjoy it.
