Mucinex, works wonders.

Spicy asian food seems to work for me.

More spicy the better.

Is it allergies or a cold?

nikipedia's avatar

@Rarebear: Not allergies. Feels like black death.

@nikipedia Are you sure it has not become a sinus infection requiring antibiotics?

About 4 hours before bed. take Mucinex and benadryl
Eat supper
Take shower
Use NediMed sinus rinse

Wait 2 hours
Just before bed Use medicated Afrin Only one spray in only one nostril.
Read or watch some show for 30 minutes and go to bed.
The nostril will be open and you’ll sleep like a baby.

@worriedguy Wow, you’ve got it down to a science. Must be speaking from experience?

@worriedguy

Wow…yeah, you need an infomercial slot, ‘Worriedguys sinus regime.’

lol

@worriedguy You’re good with this medical stuff, ain’t cha? A good friend of mine was just prescribed Prednisone pills for her allergies! she doesn’t know what she’s in for.

Different solutions work for different people, and depend on the cause. In my family, two people have an allergy to the same plant, one gets relief from Benedryl, which does nothing for the other one. She get relief from Flonase.

The Neti Pot or Sinus Rinse. Even if it is a sinus infection, after a couple they stop prescribing you antibiotics because it just leads to superbugs and make you use the netipot to get rid of it.

Definitely get the neti pot. I don’t ever get congested but my boyfriend is literally congested 24/7. And when he gets fed up enough he uses the neti pot and he always feels like his sinuses are totally clear right after. I reccomended it to another friend who said the same exact thing.

If it’s not allergies, you’re just going to have to suck it up until it gets better, so to speak. You can do nasal decongestants in the mean time.

i’m trying a sinus rinse for the first time tonight, so i can let ya know if that works

SamIAm's avatar

k used it and kinda felt like a new person after… totally recommend it. I got the one that says “sinus rinse” on the package. It’s a box with a clear bottle, black writing, and black top… neilmed or something like that! It’s about 15 bucks but I think it may be worth it—can’t wait to use it again in the morning!! :) good luck.

Neilmed rinse is very good, I have been using it for years.
Just look how healthy my beak looks! lol

LuckyGuy's avatar

@Coloma, @erichw1504, @Aster, Oh yeah, I have done this before. I found that if you I use the nasal rinse just before bed I either drip or end up swallowing the remaining liquids. Either way -Yuk!
You want the mucinex and benadryl to be in your system so you are winding down when you hit the sheets.
The Afrin works quickly -15 minutes. but it, too, drains down your throat if you are in bed right away. If you use only one shot in one nostril you have enough air and you reduce the chance of getting addicted. Watch TV or read for 30 minutes then go to bed.
Sleep tight.

I just looked at the container and it is in fact the NeilMed like @Coloma ‘s. I hope the beak isn’t catching.

@worriedguy: I was just reading the instructions yesterday and you’re supposed to do it an hour before bed to prevent that…. maybe that will help make it more pleasant for ya!

LuckyGuy's avatar

@Samantha_Rae I agree. An hour before bed is the minimum time. I wait 2 hours
Note my suggested schedule above .

+1 neti pot / nasal irrigation with saline solution. It’s one of the very few things I’ve found that will relieve and mitigate hay-fever / allergies too.
