How come I'm not getting Lurve for my GA's?

Asked by truecomedian (3937points) October 28th, 2010

I’m not “gaming” the system. I’m earning the GA’s fair and square and it’s not giving me the points. That doesn’t make sense to me. What do they have in place in the innerworkings of this site that is causing this??

I’ve had the same thing happen to me. I was told that you can get only so many GA from an individual before their GA towards you stop counting. How many in how short of a time span, I don’t know.

”…there are maximums that you can receive per answer, question, and person”

1. You can get the lurve on the first five GAs.
2. You can get the lurve on the first five GQs (I think…I’d have to double check)
3. You can get a maximum of 100 lurve per person.

Occasionally we get slowed down on the backend and it takes a minute but that’s relatively rare.

It think any user can only give a total of 100 lurve to any one other user. If the person giving you a GA has already given you 100 lurve, any subsequent GAs or GQs that that user give will not be added to your total points.

That’s lame, I bet these rules weren’t in place when the Fluther “aristocracy” got their 10,000. Bottom line, this sucks and is bullshit. Does more harm than good. Is flawed. And smells like poo.

Those rules have been in place for as long as I have been on Fluther.
Here is a post from almost two years ago

This obviously hasn’t stopped @janbb from rocketing to almost 30K lurve.

It is a way of preventing people from trying to game the lurve system by boosting their friends score with a bunch of GAs.

It is also a reminder that Fluther isn’t just about lurve.

When I joined, nobody had over 10,000 points, and these rules were in effect. I asked this same question within my first couple of weeks. Once I understood how the system worked, I thought it was brilliant. I still do.

This has been around for a long time. Probably around 3 years.

It was around this time they had to place the limits. But at that time most people were still trying to break 1k. There just wasn’t that many visitors so it was hard to get lurve.

@truecomedian Here’s some lurve for you. :-)

I’ve been here over 2 years and those rules were in effect.

Why do you feel it does more harm than good?

JilltheTooth's avatar

@truecomedian ; guess you’ll just have to work a little harder to impress the newbies.

wundayatta's avatar

Actually, @truecomedian, the rules are lame. They’re just picking on you. They give us 30K people extra lurve just for being us. We’re just rolling in the clover and never have to post any answers at all. [rolls eyes]

JilltheTooth's avatar

@wundayatta is right. See? ^^^ He got a GA simply because he is here!!! (I swear I didn’t do that!)

wundayatta's avatar

@JilltheTooth Just don’t let him know that it didn’t increase my point total. Then our cover will be blown!

gailcalled's avatar

@truecomedian: I would have given you a GA but your language was too elegant and too poetic/.

Seaofclouds's avatar

@truecomedian Take a look at how many answers the people with over 10K have written. I think you’ll notice that they’ve all written a lot more answers than you have. If you really want to see your lurve get higher, you need to contribute a lot.

I joined after you and was able to do it, you just have to be more active.

This rule was in effect the day I joined. To put things in perspective for you, I compared our stats: You’ve asked 98 questions, and given 599 answers. I’ve asked 99 questions, and have given 16,516 answers.

I remember seeing Auggie reach 4000, a number so astronomical that I was sure I could never touch it. At the time I was thrilled to be in the hundreds. Advancing a little way took weeks then. Months. You young fellers have no idea how hard it was in the old days. Six miles to school in raging blizzards, uphill in both directions, barefoot . . .

chyna's avatar

^^he he. I remember when I reached 400 and I was so excited. I thought that was a huge amount of lurve and it seems like it took me about 8 months.

wundayatta's avatar

Up until 5000, the lurve just seemed to come without me hardly trying. I think I got aboiut 100 lurve per day. Then I hit 5000 and suddenly the slope turned steeply up hill. It’s been like that ever since. That (when I hit 5000) was the point at which I asked this question.

JilltheTooth's avatar

@wundayatta : Here you go, Sisyphus, you’re almost to the top of that pesky hill!

Damn. I guess I don’t disagree with you as much as I thought I did. Oh, well, so it goes.
