Old nostalgic memories? The autumn colors? Candy? Pumpkin pie? Pumpkin smashing? Dressing up? Idk.

I like Thanksgiving. It provides the perfect family/friendly warmth without the frantic Christmas chaos.

Because you’re not forced to spend Halloween with your family and give and receive gifts that none of you really like or want?

ucme's avatar

Because you can, doesn’t have to be a reason. Just enjoy!

In a way I like Halloween as you get to put a different spin on the day each year. Christmas is a fairly routine Tradition celebrated wth immediate family which is great and all but on Halloween you get to hang out with the people you want to hang out with. For me no 2 Halloweens have been alike and I like variety! ;)

I love these answers. Thank you!

Halloween is a lot less work and more about fun, plus the expectations for Halloween are much, much lower. Christmas is a huge, two or three month build-up to a single day that more times than not, turns out to be a huge disappointment. It is tons and tons of work with incredibly high expectations for pleasing all kinds of people – many of whom you see exactly one a year – that are nearly impossible to meet. Halloween is just about fun, candy, and scaring the pants off one another! The candy doesn’t hurt either…

Christmas is too hard—so much to organize, and so many family members to deal with. There’s the season, and you’re supposed to be jolly at the darkest time of year. Oh I could go on and on.

Halloween is one and done. You don’t need a meal. You don’t have to party unless you want to. All you have to do is buy candy, and maybe a costume.

Why would someone prefer Pepsi to Coke? Ham to turkey? Chocolate to Vanilla?

There doesn’t have to be a reason. They just do.

jonsblond's avatar

@J0E sure, but I do like the descriptions as to why stated above. :)

Forced Holly Jolly blows. Its just too much happiness, its sickning. Halloween you get to be creative and do whatever the fuck you want. Christmas is the same song and dance every year. Speaking of songs… christmas music if fucking horrible, halloween on the other hand is great rob zombie anyone?

The big thing that kills christmas for me though is the fact that it starts hardcore like today…. Soooo hoorayy for all the christmas shit I will now need to see for the next two months. I wait so badly for christmas every year just so I dont have to hear another sleigh bell ring for 10 months egh

I’m with you. Halloween is way more fun. Plus, you get to push the envelope a little bit. It’s okay to be strange or scary or even shocking.

J0E's avatar

@uberbatman proves my point. All those things he said he hates about Holly Jolly are what I love about it. There is no rhyme or reason for why we like what we do, it’s just who we are.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@J0E thats not true. The question asks why someone would like halloween more than christmas, my reasons are why some would. The question doesnt say anything about everyone being this way, just some. So sure, there are reasons why I dislike what I dislike or like what I like.

J0E's avatar

@uberbatman Right, but it also asks why she likes Halloween more than Christmas. My argument is there doesn’t necessarily have to be a reason for why that is. It’s like if I asked “I like red more than blue, why?” How would someone answer that?

I might be putting a little too much thought into this question…

El_Cadejo's avatar

@J0E well the main question is someone, the details is hers. Sooo it is up to us, to suggest ideas as to why one would like one holiday over the other and let her see which are relevant to her interests and apply.

“I might be putting a little too much thought into this question…” Not might, you are :P

jonsblond's avatar

@J0E Yeah. I was just having a little fun last night. Could have worded my question details a bit differently. ;)

@jonsblond @uberbatman No worries. Stuff like this interests me. It’s fascinating how the same things can be perceived so differently by people.

Halloween is loads of fun, but you don’t have the responsibilities, the travel, the preparation, the forced social situations (with relatives that you may not have much in common with) the expense of buying gifts for lots of family and friends, and the potential heart ache of NOT being able to be with people you love. What’s great about Halloween is the candy and parties and friends and silly costumes and ooky spooky stuff to look at and scary stories to listen to. Other great things about Halloween are carnivals, bake sales, bobbing for apples, candied apples and popcorn balls and last, but not least, It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!

I love Christmas for most of the reasons that other people hate it.

immm so sorry. Thats gotta suck…

Kardamom's avatar

@noelleptc It’s a bummer that folks have to suck like they do. Like they think they’re the first person to ever sing that song to you, or somehow you didn’t realize that you had a Xmas related name.

I had a friend in Jr. High who’s name was Leilani. Old men would always sing “Sweet Leilani to her.” She was so sick of it.

On a lighter note, I love the name Noelle. I think it’s very pretty. I think the Fluthers should get together a campaign to get the ding-bats in the world to Stop Pointing Out The Obvious! Here’s the goofy acronym SPOTO.

Halloween and Christmas are my 2 favorite holidays. I never can seem to decide which I like the best, but I like them both for different reasons. I do like them more than any other holiday, I guess because for me they are much more fun and exciting since I have kids who are wide-eyed with wonder and excitement for both holidays.

I have started to hate Christmas. When I was growing up my parents had a party every Christmas Eve and we had spent several weeks
getting ready for it. We knew
everyone around, had many
relatives- I just loved
Christmas. Then my mother
died,I spent a month and a
half in a coma, and my family
was never the same. Both my immediate and extended families. I am brain injured now, I live in another state from my dad, it’s just not the same. Halloween is 100 percent better- I don’t have old memories tied to it, and some friends now treat it like a religious experience.

You know, I think I’m the same way. I like Christmas, but for me, now, it’s changed. My dad is gone, yes I still have other family; however, our Christmases were not so much about the presents. It was getting together, the night before Christmas and celebrating my dad’s birthday and then opening (the kids) their gifts from Nana and Papa. That’s gone now. Last year felt empty, I’m just not getting that same excitement.

Halloween, it’s just fun. It’s effortless. We have a traditional, with another family and it hasn’t changed in years. We have fun and enjoy the evening and that’s it. No dreading things, no major loss attached to it, just fun. and mini twix bars, too!
