Facial moisturizer for winters months; which is best?

Asked by Jude (32198points) November 4th, 2010

I find that during the winter, my face gets dry and putting on liquid foundation over the moisturizer, well, it doesn’t work all that well. It doesn’t go on smooth and I don’t like the result. Could you recommend a moisturizer that is good for winter?

My two favorites: Olay Total Effects 7 is excellent, thick but not greasy and does not cause breakouts, gives a beautifully soft, almost glowing complexion. (also comes in hint-of-self-tanner) contains UVA/UVB SPF

A little cheaper but also excellent is Olay Complete (white bottle black cap) – I usually get the one for sensitive skin because it doesn’t burn if it gets in your eyes. Very spreadable and quickly absorbs, also has SPF to keep damage at bay.

I don’t work for Olay, I just love their products!! :)

I would suggest using an exfoliator or a glycol toner before your moisturizer in the winter months. It will help remove the dead skin cells that make your normal moisturizer not go on as smooth as it does in the summer. You might also try a humidifier while you sleep. It will keep the air from drying your skin out so bad.

I use Avon Anew products. I love the way they make my face feel.

In addition to a good moisturizer, I’d recommend a primer before you put on your foundation. L’Oreal Magic Perfecting base is a very good and inexpensive one.

I use Ponds…..something. It’s in a white sort of circular container and it has a light blue lid. it is AWESOME. i put it on at night, and then when i wake up in the morning, like a half hour or so before i put any makeup on because if i put it on right before the makeup just slides around. anyhow its not oily or anything and it’s the perfect amount of moisture. i highly highly highly recommend it. its cheap too…like 7 bucks for a big thing of it at target. i’ve converted my boyfriend also. you should give it a try :)

Bare Escentuals Rare Minerals Facial Moisturizer and Triple Treatment Eye Creme is excellent. The Daily moisturizer makes my face as soft as a baby’s you know what.

Avon Skin so soft?

I’m with @deni. Ponds skin cream is MAGIC. It’s been around since the 1950s at least. The day lotion (blue cap) is absolutely fantastic at keeping in moisturizer. Use a normal amount in the morning, put it on pretty thick before you go to sleep—skin softer, complexion clearer, life happier.

If Ponds still isn’t strong enough for you, my death-to-dryness remedy is Vaseline as night lotion. It’s petroleum jelly so you’ll feel a little slimy, but if you wash it all off in the morning and keep the problem areas lightly Vaselined, you will notice a difference instantly. Like, in a day.

I use Elemis SOS survial cream. It’s very rich and leaves your skin well protected without being too greasy.

I went and got my eyebrows waxed just now and the girl there gave me a few sample products. One was for exfoliating, which I never do, and another was a wonderful moisturizer. I am also going to pick up a humidifier. I’ll let you know how it goes. :)

All last winter I used an Aveeno one that had some soy in it as well as a sunscreen. It came in a pump tube and went on like silk! I’m not sure if they changed the name/packaging or if they don’t make it anymore but it was nice enough for Mr. to get hooked on using it daily too., no foo foo smell or stickiness.

To achieve a beautiful skin during winter season is to exfoliate, use an alcohol-free toner ( I use one from Neutrogena), and a cream-based moisturizer ( Omorovicza Balancing Moisturizer is good during winter).

You could try using jojoba oil if you want to go a more natural route. Jojoba is chemically closet to you own natural moisture. On top of that I would use a mineral foundation. The finish is very smooth and matte and offers great coverage. It is like making your own liquid foundation in a way, but still feels very light.

You can also try shea butter, which I use, or almond oil. I don’t break out using either of these and I tend to break out very easily.
