Place to be?

Asked by Evert (167points) April 3rd, 2008

What would these days the place (probably city) to be?

First century AD, it was probably Rome; (early) seventeenth century, it was Amsterdam; Victorian age, London; 1920’s, New York. etc. Perhaps only time can tell, but there should be some ideas around.
For example, there’s a lot going on these days in Asia, although the various cities probably suffer from a lot of pollution; standards have also changed (eg, more attention to average living standard). And I realise answers may be biased towards US/western experience.
Not moving anywhere (yet), but just curious what people think.
(and no, this is not the same as, eg, http://www.fluther.com/disc/9395/if-you-could-live-any-place-in-the-world-where-would/ . That’s more personal.)

It seems a lot of the artists in NY have moved to Berlin… Though Brooklyn is hard to beat!

I’m going with Hong Kong. I think the 21st century is theirs.

Aside from Brooklyn or Berlin, perhaps Tokyo.

Shanghai’s apparently humming along to, from a business perspective (but I hear it ain’t so nice to live there)

I’ve said it before to where I would want to be. There’s a reason I would want to be there….

Iceland!
